New details emerge of Star Trek Online
You'll be able to customise loads of stuff.
New details of forthcoming MMO Star Trek Online have popped up on the official website.
According to a Q&A with developer Cryptic, you will see ships just like the Enterprise, Defiant and Voyager - or Cruisers, Escorts and Science Vessels, as they're known.
"More details on the exact roles and differences are coming soon, but for now, suffice it to say that the ship roles are a combination of naval combat and traditional MMO gameplay," the Q&A reads.
"Klingon ships are different, and reflect their style and culture. And everything will be very customisable and very Star Trek."
And it's not just ships you'll be able to muck about with. "You will be able to modify and customise the uniform of your characters, but it will always have the look of a uniform. The costume options will reflect popular pieces from the show, as well as new concepts and styles," reckons Cryptic.
Star Trek Online is due out at some point within the next three years. The video and news snippets on the gamepage are unlikely to keep you occupied for all that time, but you know.

Still, there is no way I won't love STO. Even if it is the worst game ever, I'll love it the same. I'll just delude myself and pay up every month.

SOMEBODY CALL BLIZZARD.
Seriously, MMO to feature customizable, you know, stuff - not really news is it?

Add real time combat.
Add some real time bloody combat!
Or you'll get annihilated by blizzard, like everyone else does.
It aint rocket science, people.

2. I vowed never to pay monthly fees just to play a game
3. Trek fans are way more scary and obsessive than Star Wars fans!
yet the utterly sad Trekkie (or is it Trekker?) nerd in me wants this (and wants it to be good). I absolutely love anything Trek - ask my understanding girlfriend, and I'm in the mood for some Trek gaming at the mo with the new movie coming. I've also been watching Enterprise again, after not liking it first time round it's actually not bad on the repeat viewing (and it's got the white dude from Desmonds!). It's a shame they cut it short

However - I'd still like to give it a bash if it's any good...as long as I can command my own borg fleet...resistance is futile and all of that.

While it's comforting that they use a lot of time to make that Star Trek MMO, for which the expectations are mountain high...
...I'm mean what kind of project manager has this kind of vague goal - that's just like saying "well, you'll get your ordered car in the next 6 to 12 month and the color will be red or blue - maybe" *LOL*

Ive heard some people say that some of the graphics look pants, just wondering if this might be because they took over the project from another company (I think) so i wonder if that means some of the assets will change anyway... dunno, but its certainly a question that should be asked by someone

Not to sound like too much of a Trek nerd but exactly who are they known as that by?
Depending on which Enterprise they're talking about they're known as NX, Constellation, Excelsior, Ambasador, Galaxy or Soverign class starships. The Defiant from Deep Space Nine (as opposed to the one that was in a single episode of The Original Series and the mirror universe two parter from Enterprise) was Defiant class and Voyager was Intrepid class.
As far as customisation of characters goes as long as the game doesn't make people wear red shirts it'll be fine.

Nah. You couldn't be more wrong... Oh wait:
