New COD: World at War maps in June News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Oli Welsh

1 May, 2009

Activision has announced the imaginatively-titled Map Pack 2 for its hit FPS Call of Duty: World at War. The add-on will be available in June for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The downloadable content will include four new maps: three for competitive multiplayer, and one for the fanciful co-op Zombies mode. There will be 10 new Achievements and Trophies. There's no word on price.

The press release makes no mention of a PC release for Map Pack 2, but that doesn't mean it won't make it. World at War's Map Pack 1 took an extra month or so to arrive on PC, but when it did, it was included free in the 1.4 patch to the game.

The new maps are: Banzai, a fight for control of a river bridge; Corrosion, a scrap in a Russian train yard; Sub Pens, a bombed-out submarine base; and Shi No Numa (Zombie Swamp), which features Imperial Japanese zombies, hell hounds, traps and more.

Plenty more to read and do at the Call of Duty: World at War gamepage.

Why can't they churn out extra modes and maps for COD4?

Much as I enjoy WAW, I would like to see some new stuff for COD4. Seems as though Treyarch are much better at providing updates and new maps. Who knows, perhaps they'll do something but I guess MW2 is their main concern now.

I like the fact that IW aren't doing maps for CoD4 as it means they're spending all their time and effort on MW2. Which can only be a good thing, right?

Trying to compete with Battlefield 1943, you lose slimy Activision. Everyone I know will be on 1943 all summer.

Every time one of the existing new map packs comes up, everyone skips it anyway.

Only on the "lets pull-ya-pants-down" console version - funnily enough on the PC where the maps are given free (as it should be to keep people buying the game and not trading it in) the maps are rarely skipped. On the 360 - I feel sorry for anyone that bothered to buy them - only been booted a couple of times out of thousands of games.

No doubt Map Pack 2 will be purchased by even less people after the misery most suffer trying to get on to any maps from the first map pack in general play.

i have the first map pack on the 360 and have had absolutely no problems in getting matches in them. In fact i had more problems before i got the map pack, as it seemed most people had bought them and as such werent skipping them.

That doesn't mean it will make it to PC. We are still waiting for the rest of the extra maps for CoD2.

That's the problem when you have people that will pay $10 for 4 maps.
