New characters for SSFIV?

Flyer suggests so.

Super Street Fighter IV has 35 characters. A flyer doing the rounds this afternoon suggests it may get more.

The Japanese text on a flyer for the upcoming arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV says: "Here comes new challengers?!" Yes, with a question mark.

While the text may relate to the characters that were added to the roster for the release of the home console version of Super Street Fighter IV, we've had a look at a scan of the flyer (thanks Eventhubs) and it appears the text relates to unknown characters.

We've been told the flyer is the work of Capcom's arcade division, which acts independently from other divisions.

But there's nothing stopping Capcom patching new characters into the home console version at some point, and, of course, making them available for a fee.

Super Street Fighter 4 arcade location tests start this weekend in Japan, apparently, so we should know if any new characters are in the works soon.

While we wait, why not have a gander at Eurogamer's review?

  • nickthegun #2 2 years ago

Hopefully they arent as bad as the new super characters.

Except HAKAAAAAAAAAAAAN, naturally, who is awesome.

EDIT: The downvotes are from people who have been hit with the oily crotch rocket.

Of the new characters, Hakan is my fav. It's amazing how many players still haven't grasped how anti-air his anti-air ultra really is.
  • FenderMaster #4 2 years ago

Hakan and Makoto are weak... Juri was pretty weak too, any new characters they add will just lose to the old super turbo characters, Balrog, Ryu, M. Bison, Guile, Akuma, Sagat (he's still crazy good) and Chun Li will walk al over them for free

@FenderMaster: Juri weak? You obviously haven't fought my Juri, my friend.

Blatently Super Streetfighter IV Turbo Hyper Championship Edition.

@FenderMaster: Juri weak? You obviously haven't fought my Juri, my friend.

eh, she doesn't have any good reversals, her normals are slow and have bad recovery... she's excellent at mid range zoning, but most players just jump aound and spam dive kicks everytime an opponent does anything other than block EX dive kicks > ultra 2 mash

she isn't terrible, she's way better than Makoto or Hakan, but still not very good compared to the "old favourites"
  • stevetuck #8 2 years ago

surely this is just talking about the arcade version? as you could only play 18 fighters was it? so there is 17 new challengers?!
  • Cheapshot #9 2 years ago

Ibuki is definitely the strongest of the new characters IMO and more than holds her own against the top tier but Cody, Guy and Juri can also do some pretty amazing things, the game has only been out a few months and there's still things to be discovered so dismissing the new characters as crap is a tad premature to say the least. :-/

Karin, R.Mika and Urien to be added, puhlease!

Stretching further than Dhalsim, this story is.

    Hey Capcom look at this!

    / waves money

Hurry up with the PC version! Now it's going to arcade (which should be a PC board if the same as the original) there is no reason not to. I know people at Capcom want it to happen so MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! (pretty please!)
  • the_mtfr #12 2 years ago

I'm still waiting for the PC version dudes.
  • dirtysteve #13 2 years ago

'making them available for a fee.' hahaha, you know Capcom right? Two new characters = turbo edition.
  • vagabond #14 2 years ago

For all of you clamouring for a PC release, blame the pirates (or yourselves? ;) as apparently SFIV was the most heavily pirated game last year. Capcom have alluded that this is the reason there's not much $ in financing the PC release

If you're so desperate to play it, get the console version I guess?

    @FenderMaster:

EX Pinwheel is a good reversal but you've got to mix it up. If it's predicted then it's highly punishable. You can also get away with doing a taunt and teleport if you're quick enough.

Also, EX dive kicks > ultra 2 is an eye-roller. I hate seeing people use it. FSE ALL THE WAY! I mainly tend to use EX dive kicks as a risky mixup because it doesn't travel as far as her normal dive kick. Unless I get a crafty focus crumple in and I don't have FSE I'll sometimes dash back and go for the EX dive kick to EX pinwheel. That's if I'm feeling too lazy for a target combo, of course :)

That all being said, she'll never replace Chun as my main ;)

    @ vagabond

Wrong. COD MW2 was the most pirated game of 2009, well over 4 million copies.

    @ redneon

whats your gamertag? if you're PSN, i could use some Juri competition... i use gief, makoto and Ken

the first SSFIV tier ists have Juri pegged pretty low

it just seems like any new charaters they add, theres no way they'll put them on an equal footing with the old SF2 crowd Yoshinori Ono loves so much.

I'm with the Juri love crowd. She's really quite a lot of fun to play and has a lot of combos/tactics that keep people off guard.
  • bad09 #19 2 years ago

    @ vagabond

Nice "PC gamers are pirates" troll it's a real shame, as Pablo2k5 says, the "poor selling" MW2 was actually the top eye patch game. Not to mention the fact Capcom were rather satisfied with the PC SF4 sales.

I posted this on the forum at about 1:30pm ish and it's front page news soon after. I wonder where EG got this information from? ;)
  • espibara #21 2 years ago

i want some more backgrounds some of the stages in SSFIV are pretty shite. i.e volcano and Jungle are pretty lame
  • Zanuah #22 2 years ago

I'm more inclined to believe it refers to (new) human players. When they're releasing the arcade version of SSF4.
  • iamtheoneneo #23 2 years ago

lol at peps wanting a pc release, im a pc gamer and even i know thats a rediculous thing considering most people just pirate the game. get a 360 and the game you cheap asses.
  • redneon Verified Programmer, SUMO Digital #24 2 years ago

    @FenderMaster:

I'm on 360, unfortunately. But my gamertag is SuburbanMonkey if anyone fancies a game.

Juri is ranked pretty low in most of the tier lists, I've noticed. On iPlayWinner she's gone from mid-range to low. But I'm not fussed. I mained Sakura for a while and she's really low too. Plus, with Chun being my actual main, it's a nice balance.

EDIT: Just noticed your Ono statement. I blame him for the reason that Blanka is so broken ;)

    @bad09

Lol don't shoot the messenger, no not trolling at all, just passing on the info I read over at Capcom unity a while ago. They specified piracy as the main issue with doing a pc release again

You say that Capcom are satisfied with the pc sales? Then ask yourself why they haven't announced a SSFIV pc version yet then?

Like the above poster says, just get the console version for gawds sake. It's a great price honestly
