New Café area coming to Home

No word on price for virtual Frappuccinos.

Some images have emerged of the new Café area in PlayStation Home.

Writing on the PlayStation forums, Home bossman Locust_Star described the Café as "a public space for everyone's enjoyment".

He added, "While specific events will be hosted in the Café, in the end it will be used for all the same purposes every other space in Home is - socialising with other PS3 users. That's what Home is about. But thats not to say that we can't turn it into something different if that is what the community calls for."

Locust_Star was keen to stress the Café is still a work in progress and will evolve over time, "as with all things in Home".

"BETA! BETA, BETA!" he added, clearly a big fan of the British Equestrian Trade Association.

Assuming that the space in 'Caf é' is not a mistake (repeated several times), it's a bloody stupid name. How the hell are you meant to pronounce it? Caff...Ay? Caff...ee?

I think I'll stick to hanging out in the World of Warcr aft.
• DFawkes #2 3 years ago

Why bother? Even if I loved Home, finding a place to socialise is easy. I don't need another place for that - though admittedly I'd have compalined if they'd added nothing too. They can't win my vote. The British Equestrian Trade Association can though.

A new area to leg hump in.......

"A new area to leg hump in......."

That's not a virtual latt é I spilled in my lap - I'm just pleased to see you.
• CaptianScarlet #5 3 years ago

I thought almost exactly that when I read about it......Caf..eh?

But then again for a while I thought the whole thing was called...... Hom..eh?

Home is an EPIC FAIL!

Sorry! just throwing that out there, I'll get my coat.
• dazrichards #6 3 years ago

Probably just me but I find socialising like this to be rather weird.

@glottis0 - good joke btw!
• NoCodeNed2 #7 3 years ago

checked the link and he typed it 'cafe', I think acute accents are a bit too much for EG's website. Bless.

Unless this can deliver Bacon sarnies to my front door then this fails :/
• teabagger #9 3 years ago

Are there any usage figures for home? To be honest I'd kind of forgotten about it.

• Mr-Bozzey #12 3 years ago

meh seems ok its another new area the EA sports home complex is what im waiting for.

but home is evolving and yet to add even more to it.

just depends whats in the cafe to keep me there to talk with people.

so far i only use home for the odd game of pool with a buddy.
• Kage321 #13 3 years ago

i wonder if Sony will charge for virtual coffee?
• Coughthulu #14 3 years ago

"i wonder if Sony will charge for virtual coffee?"

Only if it's Hot Coffee. Oh wait, that happens all over the rest of Home anyway.
• bodypopper #15 3 years ago

Meh. I own both consoles but Xbox Live has all the socialising I need. I see friends are online, jump in and play a game.
If if want this sort of 3D social networking thing, I'll do it on my laptop. Tried loading Home and it crashed. Couldn't be bothered to try again.

Sorry, something's up with our character display tags there. We've removed the accent until we can figure out the problem.

My first thought was that it was stupid branding, too.

I love this quote... "it will be used for all the same purposes every other space in Home"

...

So what the fuck is the point of adding something the same as what's already there? Surely adding something different would be a better idea.
• aphexstwin #19 3 years ago

theres a cafe on the equally buggy jap and hong kong homes, their areas are massive. last time i was on the jap home the cafe as well as all the other spaces were jammed, the cafe has an upstairs with an office and conference rooms. why for, im not sure. on the same looking hk home everywhere was empty, less than 20 ppl in the whole program. the cafe had no one in it and the office and conference rooms were uninhabited.

im not seeing the appeal of yet another meeting place tbh, im wanting to see more development space with some thing to actually do in them, looking at pictures and waiting for the movies to download is not my cuppa tea. or frappuccinos. (the fc2 and uc2 areas in the us home suck) thats why the bowling area is my favourite place, because of the mini games, and also why the ea space will be popular.

home will live or die on whether you give its patrons something other to do than chase around female clad males or discover glitches in the shopping mall....

Haha, funniedt comment of the day.
• Sulphur_Man #21 3 years ago

Sony can add all the zones the like, the fabulous irony is that there's nowhere more alien-feeling than HOME.
• dadrester #22 3 years ago

"...on the jap home the cafe ... has an upstairs with an office and conference rooms. why for, im not sure."

I think it's meant to look like the famitsu wave offices.

Dear community,

please "call for" something different.

Actually, how does the community call for something different? Is there a form you fill out?

Yours truly,
sneetch.

It's called Second Life. Google it. Free. Millions of ppl online every day. You can have virtual sex in it too. Party virtually. Get to talk to others in a manner way better and free compared to Home which has been expected for how long now? and they passed it out to you again with such delay and call it Beta? How many times per console generation do you guys bend over, pay for the intercourse and yet say thank you to Sony?

lol...
• BothBarsOn #25 3 years ago

@davisorle: we don't pay for it, it's free, so there! HA!

OK, so another place to stand and chat about nothing and for males to harass the women?

Another waste of time Sony, well done. How about spending some time on some decent updates instead of bringing this kind of rubbish out.
• mcbi4kh2 #27 3 years ago

@davisrole
I find it ironic that you are laughing at people for owning a Sony console, when you have just been advocating 'virtual sex' and 'virtual partying' as something to strive for. Seriously mate, jog on.

Never actually got around to trying the Red Bull area yet. Too busy proper playing games tbh.
• Garulon #29 3 years ago

"OK, so another place to stand and chat about nothing and for males to harass the women?"

Maybe you can sit in the virtual cafe and sip three quid virtual cappachinos while you work on your virtual novel on your virtual Sony Vaio laptop.
• skillian #30 3 years ago

Refreshingly funny comments thread today, I award you both two internets.

Awesome. I never saw the point of Home before now. :)

How much is a virtual Sony Vaio? I hear they're "aspirational", because they're, you know, ridiculously expensive for average tech but come in shiny cases and have a Sony badge?

Is the virtual Home beta now available on virtual PS3's? ;)

It's called Second Life. Google it. Free.

Yeah, that's why so many people are making money off selling SL items, because it is "free". Hint: Home is also "free", there is no demand to buy stuff.

Oh I forgot, you PC proponents neglect to take the PC cost into accout so I guess buying a PS3 counts as a "cost" in your books...
• tomnol #33 3 years ago

Couldn't be bothered to try again.

Wish you wouldn't bother to let us know.

Not your thing huh? Socializing...
• Ryze #35 3 years ago

Loading, please wait......................
• callum9999 #36 3 years ago

It would be much better if they just collaberated with second life to get it on the ps3, then made a playstation specific area inside it.
• AOFanboi #37 3 years ago

The new FarCry 2 areas are also boring as heck. Homes is starting more and more to reveal its true nature: A new ad channel for Sony products, whether games, hardware or movies. I wonder when the (eternal) beta ends if we are going to see paid concerts there from Sony/BMG-signed bands...

I start to wonder what this huge interactive AD is doing on my hard drive...
• RedSparrows #38 3 years ago

NXE's a new Ad service with extra frippery, but only in two 'channels', which are easily ignored. So it's not just Sony.

• Arwin #40 3 years ago

Looks a lot like the one in Japanese Home?
• CB.Gamestation #41 3 years ago

@AOFANBOI

Please post some decent shit - Home is free but unless you wanna hang out as a tramp it costs you.

The PC cost vs PS3 crap you just talking absolute shit.

You seem to be the classic PS3 owner demographic IE a bit of a wanker.

Well in all fairness could you buy a high-spec PC for £299 ??
Classic demographic for PS3 isn't 'a bit of a wanker' at all.

In fact, demographic for XBOX 360 could be perceived to be worse....ie A giro-collecting, beer swilling chav loud-mouth..
• AOFanboi #42 3 years ago

@KingsXKing:

Home is free but unless you wanna hang out as a tramp it costs you.

How is that different from Second Life? Go back to your ass-humping buddies on Furries Island or wherever you sickos hang out.
