New Borderlands DLC ups level limit

Biggest add-on yet, says Gearbox.

The next batch of Borderlands DLC will increase the level limit over 50 and star Scooter, the potty-mouthed mechanic from New Haven.

After outing the news, level designer Jason Reiss wrote on the Gearbox forum (via Kotaku) that this upcoming add-on will be "the biggest DLC we have made".

Mikey Neumann, Gearbox's creative director, Tweeted that we'll see "More Scooter!", in response.

No other details were mentioned.

Borderlands has had two significant add-ons in The Zombie Island of Dr Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. The former opened a new island to explore while the latter introduced hardcore arena challenges for organised groups of friends.

Our Zombie Island of Dr Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot reviews can be found elsewhere on the site.

More DLC for this great game is only good news! They're supporting it really well with these add-ons...

  • Murton #4 2 years ago

Haven't gotten round to the first two yet, here's hoping for a discount bundle like Butler has suggested.
  • Sir_TimAlot #5 2 years ago

Can power level someone to level 35 in about 1 hour.....
Anyway, Borderlands, great game, still not got any of its DLC yet but plan to get it all when this one is released

Bloody hell butler, took me a couple of weeks to get to 50!
Really looking forward to this, even though I haven't even gotten around to playing the latest bit of DLC yet...

More Scooter? More Vehicle-based combat, then?
  • hardtech #8 2 years ago

    More scooter = New vehicles?
  • brainbird #9 2 years ago

I love Borderlands. But I'm somewhat hesitant when it comes to DLC. I think I'm waiting for the inevitable GOTY edition.
  • Hypercube #10 2 years ago

Is any of this DLC available on PC?
  • Murton #11 2 years ago

I don't get why levelling up is all people see in an RPG. Borderlands continued to be great fun for me beyond level 50 as I completed my second playthrough, started a new character and started playing co-op with friends, there's plenty to do, if you are so inclined to do it.

Non-level based RPGs are the future, unfortunately they are few and far between these days. Raph Koster's character progression system for the original Star Wars Galaxies was simply inspired, I'd gladly take that again over the artificial level based system of today's RPGs and MMORPGs.

Oh dang darn it! Just as I thought I could quit playing it they announce MORE? How on earth will I get the time for all my other unplayed games? :(
  • Flying_Pig #13 2 years ago

Awesome news! Loved Zombie Island of Dr Ned, and am close to finished PT1 (level 38). More content for me to do after the main quest would be great.

    This can't come soon enough!
  • Steroyd #14 2 years ago

I dunno, I generally don't see RPG's as a skill based games, so when my character stops levelling up I just... stop...

That or it's been drilled in my head that when i reach max level I am God, and these lowly peons aren't worth my effort.
  • Pastici #15 2 years ago

Did it win any GOTY awards? No use hoping for got a GOTY edition if it didn't. It should've though, its bloody great!

When you hit level 50 and finish the second playthrough, all enemies scale up to level 50, and the boss monsters respawn. Then you can really test how your god-like level 50 fares ;)

I'm also hoping this will be desert racing with combat.

Man, they keep finding ways to make this great game even better.
  • Monkey_Puncher #18 2 years ago

I hope it's not vehicle based combat, can't say I'd be a fan of that. A large new area to explore with new types of weapons and more levelling up would be perfect IMO.
  • muscleblade #19 2 years ago

This isnt really an RPG though is it? More like a FPS with RPG elements.
Good game, a new level cap is welcome. Hope this is more like Island of Dr. Ned than Mad Moxxi.

Finished my 1st PT on Wed, this is a great game, Co-op is just fantastic fun, I've had a better time playing this than Halo 3, gear of war or L4D co-op. I honestly think this is the 1st game in a long long time thats 'Wow, finished..../push start...Hmmm Playthrough2... don't mind if I do.' Just keep that extra content coming, and make a sequel :)
  • metalangel #21 2 years ago

More vehicles please! A one-man bike and four-man tank would be great. And how about some salt flats or something? One of my favourite bits was the Headland, driving around that huge area fighting Mad Mel's outriders. More of that, an area bigger than Scooter's mom's girl parts!
  • octavedoctor #22 2 years ago

yippee! Not played Moxxi's much yet as don't have time to co-op much... bought it more out of support for Gearbox so we get more uber DLC... like this!

I've still not finished 'Braaaaaaaaaaiiiiinnnnsss' it's a little grindy, heh. :) (done the rest of Dr Ned tho)

  • systems #23 2 years ago

It's easy to level up if you know someone on playthrough 2. Just sit back at base doing nothing and you get to share the masses of XP the TP2 player is getting (you'll be level 10 in about 5 minutes).

I did this to get my second, third and fourth characters up to a good level quickly. They joined a splitscreen game with my main PT2 character and I left them in Firestone. Within minutes they had their special ability. Better than going through that intro tutorial 3 more times.

How about a claptrap dispenser? Push a button and one pops out and starts doing its hateful dancing, and you can SMASH ITS FUCKING FACE IN.
  • ignatiusjreilly #25 2 years ago

    "Check me out, I'm dying!"
  • Pinewood_Groves #26 2 years ago

Woo! Just as I was thinking of trading this in.
  • octavedoctor #27 2 years ago

Awww poor old Claptrap. I think they rock. The lines in Dr Ned ruled. (loved the hacked bandit one's insults in the maingame also). made me laugh.

I liked it but there was a bit too much grinding, plus it's not really an open world more of a level based arena affair with some dungeons and ocasionally cars but overall I liked it, it was quirky, also a bit too much item managing sometimes especially with the guns which there were alot of but they weren't all that different to each other apart from the stats
  • Murton #29 2 years ago

Item/weapon management is the one part of RPGs that never disappears or gets old. I finished the game before Christmas and have spent a couple nights this week helping my brother with the climb to level 50 after he finished his first playthrough last weekend. Even though my character is level 50 I've managed to replace almost all of their gear with better items I've looted or seen in vendors which means when I finally get round to the DLC I'm going to have a stronger character compared to if I hadn't played since hitting the level cap.

For example just today I've found myself a sniper rifle with nearly 600 damage that is guaranteed to set an enemy on fire, a shotgun that deals in excess of 1000 damage and a shield with a capacity of 1300+ with class skills and my defender mod I have Lilith's shield strength at 2499, all stuff I'd be missing out on without continuing to play.

Fantastic news, I don't own the game, but I've rented it and was rather impressed. Further more, with the support this game has been recieving I think I'll actually have to buy this game, the timing for these content releases have been excellent.

**also why has Butler been negged for saying that he finished the game and that he's going to buy all of the DLC at once? EG people clearly do not understand this Karma system!**
