New Blacksite Live demo

Not long until release.

There's a new demo of Blacksite on Xbox Live Marketplace ahead of the Xbox 360 and PC versions' end-of-November launches.

The new demo weighs in at 988MB and sees you battling aliens in small-town America. We would give you more details, but we forgot to bring our Xbox 360 to the office this morning. It's heavy, all right.

This isn't the first demo, of course, with Live users already able to download a small taster that sees players blasting their way through alien scum in a petrol station before admiring a fancy old beast ripping its way through some buildings.

The full game's due out on 30th November for 360 and PC, with a PS3 version to follow, and you can read more about it in our first impressions and interview with Midway's Harvey Smith.

They can release it into the first convenient toilet as far as I'm concerned. Far to many genuinely good games to be busy with this winter.

People say it's been such a great year, but to be honest I think that's crap. Halo 3 was average, Assasssin's Creed was poor, COD4 was good but I'm already starting to feel repetition with the game online, Mass effect is great if you like watching stuff, the combat s meant to be lame, Orange box..I don't want to play Half life 2 again thanks. And Mario, yeah whatever, I thought Mario 64 was the worst in the series. And Bioshock, nice game for the first two thirds of it, then it falls apart with a stupid fetch quest and a Doom 3 style boss at the end that makes me think developers will never be able to make a game that I truly like.

For me 2007 has been pretty crap, endless FPS and hyped games that didn't deliver. Just give me RE5 and we will call it quits this gen.

I hated the first Area 51 game on the Xbox, it was so utterly bland and devoid of any redeeming features whatsoever, at least that's the impression I got from the two demos I tried. Now this new game seems to be another generic Unreal Engine 3 shooter based on the uninteresting "taster" demo released earlier on this year. I'll certainly check out the new demo but I'm pretty confident I won't be buying the game anyway as the reviews I've read so far have failed to convince me it's worth buying anymore than Jericho or TimeShit... err... Shift, sorry, were.

Maybe you should give up gaming?

2007 has not been a total disaster, there are great and good games but it could be that sometime we lose interest and these get dragged to the 'god-damn its all stink' level of enjoyment?

NickJD maybe you finally grown up and its time to leave the games and rest of us immature kids behind?!

Its an unhealthy obession for some of us (moi).

I thought this month was going to get really expensive but it now looks like Uncharted is the only essential release. Mass Effect may be worth a shot when they've patched up all the technical issues but between now and Christmas there's really nothing worth buying. At least that gives me the chance to finish some of the stuff I've already got.

Take no notice of my earlier rant, I'm just a very cranky and jaded gamer. I do actually like gaming, I just like to bitch and moan about it for some reason.

Highlights for me this year have been

Wii Sports - Tennis and bowling

Forza Two, sat plopped in front of the 50" screen with ironing board And MS Wheel (big thanks to whoever mentioned the setup on EG - and our banter about Ferrari Ironing board covers giving better lap times) doing Le Mans style swaps with mates as we completed some of the endurance races.

Forza 2 - online all mates racing together - and bitch whining about anyone who is not first using the car in front to brake on the first corner of Laguna Seca – going down the pit straight became a very intense game of dodge the dodgy mate.

Halo 3 on Co-op with friends - made a decent game awesome.

Atmosphere of Bioshock – “No, no, no no no”.

Call of Duty 2 - which I hadn't paid enough attention to - went back and did veteran.

CoD 4 - Beta multiplayer - and now full game - much more satisfying for me than Halo 3 - shooting should always be a better option to rifle butting - think Halo3 Multiplayer should be labelled a FirstPersonRifleButting game.

Obviously a bit off topic so I was going to put that in the forums but my Forum link seems not to be working.

Gave this a go, first time I loaded up the enemies didn't bother to show up.

Gotta say, I rather liked the first demo. Nice graphics, good mechanics.

I don't ask much from an FPS game, but being able to have fun shooting stuff from a first person perspective is always a good start. On that basis, I'm still interested regardless of whether or not it is that original.

I keep getting an error message when trying to download this.

WhatWhatWhat? They fixed the tearing? This might be OK then!

I... quite liked this, does that make me a bad person?

NickJD I (almost) agree with you, but I just wanted to say that is this 7th gen has been a disappointment. Everything from VF5 to Halo 3 could have been done on the DirectX8 console aka Xbox (or even a pre-Core2Duo/AMD X2 PC), and only Uncharted has opened my eyes to what's possible with the PS3 (and the 360 too if anyone can be arsed)

Is anyone else getting a "Status code: 80153005" error or is it just me? Can't seem to download it.
  • hypernova #19 4 years ago

    @Freylis

I'm getting the same error message (yesterday and still now). I thought it might be because I don't have xbox live Gold.
  • Freylis #20 4 years ago

Ah, its probably that. I'm using the work account which is only Silver; I'll grab it at home then. Cheers!

Suggesting the quality and amount of games this year is crap, is the biggest load of tosh ive read for some time. Name a year when such a large amount of high scoring well received games have been released and maybe you have a point.

Halo 3 is the best halo yet and thats not even top of my list. On most years it would just be Halo on its own like when the first Halo was released, but you got PGR, COD, SKATE, FORZA, ORANGE BOX - which isnt just HL2 btw if you bothered to check.

Mario yeah whatever???? lol you clearly have no interest in games. stick to playing flash games on tinterweb mate, you wont get so dissapointed then.

Based on my bank balance and the fact i can't stop playing all these games listed should be enough to make most people realise 2007 is one of the strongest years yet and 2008 will have to go some imo, Resi 5 wont be enough on its own. as there is a thing called *diversity* which most gamers like.
  • hypernova #22 4 years ago

    @Freylis (again)

Well, this evening the demo downloaded fine for me, so maybe it had nothing to do with silver/gold (I'm on silver). Strange, especially considering that particular error number turns up nothing on google.

PS3 owners get stiffed by Midway yet again...
  • hypernova #24 4 years ago

What a shit demo. I enjoyed the first one, but this didn't feel the same.
