New BioShock 2 maps causing problems

Plus: Rebirth glitch wiping player stats.

The BioShock 2 community reports having a torrid time trying to play the new Rapture Metro downloadable maps.

2K Games isn't running a map rotation exclusively for the six new areas, and public games default to the old rotation should anyone join who doesn't have the DLC.

Even when all present have bought the Rapture Metro Pack, there's only a 37.5 per cent chance what you play will be new, as there are 10 old maps compared to six new.

"We didn't want to assume everyone would have the maps, and we didn't want to split the player base (because in previous weeks, we'd already established that sucks)," wrote community bod Elizabeth Tobey on the 2K forum (recorded by Rapture Archives).

"So DLC maps are in public map rotation if everyone has the content, and otherwise base maps are used - that way you can play with your friends even if they don't have the DLC content.

"If you want to only play DLC maps, however, private matches are the best way to go about that - that way you can use only those maps."

You cannot gain rank in private matches.

What's more, the Rebirth ability introduced in the Rapture Metro DLC has apparently wiped some users' online stats, leaving only their game-time intact. The Rebirth ability was intended to down-Rank a player to level 1 again and give them a golden bunny mask to reflect their achievement. A win/lose stat was supposed to remain.

The Rapture Metro Pack was released on 11th May for 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80 / €9.60) or $9.99 on PS3. A PC version is "coming soon".

2K is looking into the matter for Eurogamer.

My sincere sympathies to the five people who are still bothering with Bioshock 2 multiplayer.

This games has had lots of issues hasn't it. I'm now actually glad 2K didn't support pads on the PC version, it really does sound like I dodged a bullet on BS2, which is great as I love BS1 and don't want to ruin that :)

Nice job there, glad I bailed after an hour or 3.

wasnt the DLC on the disk? this is just kama for 2K being such a slag. Just a shame its the gamers getting the shit pudding
  • Eraysor #6 2 years ago

I'm more shocked that there were people playing to notice the problem in the first place.

Maybe they should look into it for the people who bought the DLC? ;)

I rather like the multiplayer, and I never have any problems finding a match in any mode, no matter what time I am playing, so it's obviously much more ppopular than people think.

Doesn't that mean there are always at least eight people playing somewhere in the world at any time? Not that impressive...

I said no matter what mode I am playing, so at least around 60 people at any given time. But its a lot more than that anyway, I rarely end up playing against the same people.

So the DLC that's not wanted for the multiplayer mode that wasn't wanted for the sequel that was entirely unnecessary is shit?

  • menage #12 2 years ago

I didn't think the multi was that bad, but technical issues like this scare me the hell away from anything, so also this.

After 3 freezes in an hour and lost xp/matches I called it quits already.

Worse even, once anyone bails on a mp it's almost certain they won't come back. They should have fixed it first, then released it, not like it is done now.

PPl here shouldnt assume the overall game is bad just cos the multiplayer is shit, the MP component was done by a diff developer than the SP. The single player is great, if it never had a multiplayer mode noone would have cared, just like in the original.
  • JayKwon #14 2 years ago

The mp wasn't that shite, it just wasn't meant to ever last, it wasn'n polished enough and way to straightforward and unoriginal. But it had some nice ideas though and I kinda like it for the 15 hours or so I played it. But this DLC is going nowhere me thinks, especially if you can't play it as it is supposed to be in public matches, and they indeed should've fixed a lot of problems earlier.

SP is ace though! Surprised me, because I loved the original but was really anxious how they would tie a sequel to it. Now a prequel please!

i really hope their dlc that has you level up and add additional tweaks to existing weapons in multiplayer didn't sell well. I'd hate for that to become the norm.. do the games even keep ballanced with that shit?

That's a mess-up, all right. The responses from the community lady are just ridiculous. The community ought to be going for the pitchforks and readying the oil and tinder! It's great to see that 2K puts such great consideration and planning in to provision of paid content. :/ I'll know to steer clear of their online offerings in the future.

Well that glitch is one thing already on the disc they didn't charge for at least.
