New AvP game from Rebellion News

PSP News by Robert Purchese

9 August, 2007

UK-based developer Rebellion is working on a new Alien versus Predator game for PSP, to tie-in with the upcoming Hollywood sequel expected this Christmas.

Sierra Entertainment will be publishing it, but offered no comment on the project earlier.

It looks set to be a third-person action game, according to the unveiling in Official PSP magazine, although other details are scarce.

Rebellion was the developer responsible for the 1999 Aliens versus Predator game on PC, which was really rather good fun. The sequel was handed over to F.E.A.R. creator Monolith a couple of years later, and this will mark Rebellion's first return to the franchise since it started.

We'll keep you posted when more information becomes available.

also, could the film actually be, you know, good like the real alien and predator films rather than gash like AvP (movie) was?

How interesting. This will truly prove whether or not Rebellion's a good developer. AvP was the only great game they ever made - let's see if they can do it again!

Actually I'm sure there is plenty of appeal to "nancy boys" (god what is this - the 1970s?) given its full of big muscley macho men. Regardless, Predator is a great action film - anyone who says otherwise is wrong. Its one of Arnie's few truly good films (Conan being one of the others).

Predator 2, however is a big pile of shit.

Funny how the first film is regarded as an all time great classic. Proper mans film. Grow some balls.

The sequel is called "Aliens vs Predator" and looks to be a way harder/gorier interpretation of the AVP franchise. Very much like the old Dark Horse comic books...

What will be worse, the film or the game?

My money is on the film if the first effort was anything to go by

Rebellion's AvsP PC version was the best stab at the franchise so far. Let's hope they can improve on it for PSP.

AVP one of the most atmospheric games eva... "theres movement all around man... multiple signals... Were not getting outta here man, game over man!!!"

That motion tracker noise is what nightmares are made of.

exactly. its all about the motion sensor. that little 'beepbeep' when it picks something up is the scariest thing ever.

Um, please say you accidently forgot to mention the Terminator in that sentence?

I have never been so excited then so disappointed just reading the same sole sentence. PSP? FFS. Rogue Trooper was actually pretty good, as was Sniper Elite, but it's a real shame that AvP for PC is still far and away their best game.

Going by the current all-star line-up of third-person action games on the system (MGS, Syphon Filter, TRA) I really fail to see what all this anti-PSP bitching is in aid of. Think positive, you harlots!

Tomb Raider Anniversary I think...

Which isn't a great example seeing as it clearly wasn't made for the system and has horrible framerate ( I have it ).

Oops - ignore that I'm getting mixed up with Legends :)

What we really need is a proper current-gen FPS sequel to the original PC games. But then, that's just stating the bleedin obvious really....... so why haven't the devs done this already?

Back to the point. AVP was one of the finest gaming experiences of all time. Exactly what the psp needs. kinetic fear inducing multi-player action.

If I have a niggle it's that those backward Aliens do like them some darkness, and the PSP screen isn't exactly flood-lit :(
