New Achievements for Gears
Coming in future patch.
Gears of War's next Title-Update-not-patch is also going to have new achievements relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts downloadable content, Epic Games' Mark Rein said on their forum a couple of days ago. "We're also going to have new achievements relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts downloadable content," he wrote (see). "Some of the achievements are tied to things relating to playing the maps in the Hidden Fronts map pack which currently costs money but will be made free in a few months," he later clarified.
That's on top of a new approach to the "Roadie Run" move - you know, sprinting - which is outlined in a separate post made by Epic's Rod Fergusson on 13th April (we've learnt our lesson). It aims to solve the problem of players getting accidentally sucked into a cover position when they mean to run past it. "If the player wants to go into cover then they'll have the stick pointing towards it," Fergusson wrote, explaining Epic's solution. "It they want to stay out of cover then they’ll have the control stick pointing away from it."
You can read more about that in Fergusson's original post, while Rein's post can be found through these clicky-words. Last word to him, then: "Of course no title update would be complete without more exploit squashing and the ever-popular 'general housekeeping'." We'll let you know more when we do.

Kill 1000 people online is not really my cup of tea.

My opinion is that the achievements should re-inforce fun play, and getting the "100 kills with a pistol in ranked matches" and alike just doesn't spell out fun.
When you are relying on comunity-related gameplay experiences to "achieve" something in a game you're always going to be treading an unknown line.
Either that or do what they did, but not limit the multiplayer achievements to ranked-only. So what if a bunch of people want to set up games to get the achievements? They're still playing them.

MS should have a policy to make at least 75% of the achievements offline focused. Some games, such as FEAR, had the balance way out.

GOOD
- Beat other team without a single person on your team dying
- Revive 100 teammates
BAD
- 100 Pistol kills
- 100 Boom shot kills etc....
As for the reduced glitching and cheaters, the last update was a complete joke in that respect and so I won't hold my breath.

I see your point, but I don't think it's fair to the non online community. I suck at multiplayer.
The 75% factor seems ok though.
Dead RTising had some fun achievements, why can't games be more like that.

acheivements for the whole team surviving would be nice, or maybe for the rare occasions where one team member takes out a whole enemy team themselves.
for those of you moaning about being bad at MP or wanting to get acheivements in casual games with mates, the whole point is that they are acheivements and you therefore have to work to acheive them. Having too much emphasis on single player acheivements can be just as bad with points getting thrown about for finishing each and every level.

I already work for a living, I don't want to work in my games. Achievements like hit 10 zombies with a bowlingball in one try at least try to make you play the game in a different way. They open up a new view of the game that I wouldn't have thought of myself. Making te game a lot more fun. Killing 1000 people is just work for me.

Given my limited experience of the general GeOW online fraternity, I would imagine that would be barely 18 mins work for some players.

and yeah, some acheivements are definitely more work than fun but dont use dead rising as an example of good acheivements. The dressing up and food acheivements are the very definition of work acheivements rather than fun ones.
single player acheivements can be just as monotonous as MP ones. It is just that MP ones are usually harder to get as there is no 'easy' way to get them.

GOW is ok buts it no resident evil 4 now is it?
cumbersome controls bad collison detection and random weapons damage...
its not that people are not good at it its that it is a mess yeh nice graphics but it doesn't play all that smooth especially in multi player, its like the original xbox fat pads... its got great buttons but when you actually hold it in your hands and try and do something feels like you pressed a button and somethin may have happened yesterday...
I think Marcus and Baird are out sniffing locust shit pipes right now.
