New 50 Cent game ten times less popular News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

11 May, 2009

It may have got some respectable review scores (including 7/10 from Eurogamer), but 50 Cent's latest game hasn't proved as popular as its predecessor.

As reported by Kotaku, 56,000 copies of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand were shifted in the US during the first two months on sale.

But sales of 50 Cent: Bulletproof hit 681,000 during the same period. That's despite the fact it only managed an average Metacritic score of 47, compared to 71 for Blood on the Sand. More than a million copies of Bulletproof have been sold to date.

Rumours that THQ hopes to reinvigorate the series by producing 50 Cent: Carnival Sports Party exclusively for Wii are completely made up.

Makes sense. Many would see 50Cent on the cover and immediately buy it for fun, see that it's complete crap, and therefore avoid the superior sequel.

@TH

So true and so sad... The succes of a gamefranchise is a curious thing. To think Okami and Ico put together has sold less than a 50 cent -game is.. well.. I don't know.

Imagine living in a world where people bought computer games becuase the games themselves were absolutely fantastisc and mesmerizing. Now that would be something.

Makes sense, the better games are the less they sell, it seems.

Surely the reason is simply because 50 Cent is far less popular at the moment?

Man, that's harsh. Ok it was a shitty licence but the devs deserve credit for putting their hearts into it. And it only sold 56,000 copies.. Eeek.

I liked Blood on the Sand. It was geniunely funny. Action/arcade and oneliners... you could have a nice time playing it without thinking too much. Just Old School for me

Just like the critically-mauled Driver 3 spent weeks at the top of the charts and sold loads, then the (by all accounts) much improved sequel passed completely under the radar.

I think this game would have sold much better if they had used a generic character, instead of 50 pence.
Should have gone for a mildly annoyed midget instead of the angry rapper.Gary Coleman out of Different Strokes could have made the world of difference.
