Neversoft staffing for "action shooter"

Guitar Hero developer looking ahead.

Current Guitar Hero developer Neversoft is seeking level designers to work on a "new action shooter game", prompting speculation the studio is going to get to turn its hand to something other than plastic instruments.

"Neversoft Entertainment, located in Woodland Hills, CA, is currently seeking experienced Level Builders to work on new action shooter game," a job advert picked up on by superannuation declared.

"If you have a passion for design, and you can create realistic levels by bringing concept art to life, then we are looking for you."

Neversoft has worked on shooty stuff before, most notably its western title Gun, but is best known for its work on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series - before Activision threw it off a sales cliff onto the jagged rocks of failure - and with Guitar Hero since Harmonix was acquired by MTV.

Inevitably there's some speculation that Neversoft will become yet another Call of Duty developer. Activision currently has its new action studio Sledgehammer working on a COD title, while Treyarch pumps out this year's COD: Black Ops, and other titles are known to be in the works.

I would say I'd be excited for another Gun - but I can't see any western-themed game besting Read Dead Redemption for quite a while...

    bringing concept art to life

Most environment concept arts I've seen are much more impressive than actual level themselves.
Technical limitation aside, I've yet seen anyone successfully recreate that particular kind of drawing style in 3D.

    "Technical limitation aside"

But that is surely the core reason, no?

You know what we haven't had enough of this generation? ACTION SHOOTERS.

I look forward to this, I haven't played a single action shooter this generation. Not one. None. In fact, is this a new genre?

Maybe it will be Tony Hawk's Call of Duty, where you need to traverse the world on your skateboard peripheral, combating the evil bearded men that lurk outside USA with your lightgun peripheral.

Through micro transactions upgrades will be available, like the "The Spiked Polyurethane Weels of Carthage". XP will be acquired for each kill allowing you to create your own very unique skate warrior.

I bet neversoft are glad they have been given the opportunity to create a new IP, fresh slate, fresh ideas and all that. Oh, wait its ANOTHER shooter. Do developers not think that PERHAPS people like to do things other than shoot stuff in the face in games?

Do developers not think that PERHAPS people like to do things other than shoot stuff in the face in games?

They look at sales figures and decide that not enough people like to do things other than shoot stuff in the face. The numbers don't lie.

If a game has a huge budget it needs a huge number of sales. A shooter gives you the best chance of that.

Actually now seeing the Rock Band 3 announcement they've realised that the Guitar Hero franchise is fucked when under their control. They should hand it to a developer with a greater vision (Harmonix perhaps? XD)

What's the betting this will come with a plastic gun peripheral.
