Need For Speed Undercover gets date

With shops. This November.

The next instalment in the Need for Speed series will be out in Europe on 21st November.

NFS Undercover is said to take the franchise back to its roots. You infiltrate a crime syndicate and must speed away from police in Hollywood-style car chases.

The Need for Speed girl this year is Maggie Q, who was the hard-hitting woman Bruce Willis had a fight with in Die Hard 4, and part of the team Ethan Hunt worked with in Mission Impossible III.

Maggie Q will act as the Federal Agent ordering you around in Undercover. She follows previous star turns from Kate out of Lost, Brook Burke and Josie Maran.

Need for Speed Undercover is in development for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS and mobile.

Head over to our Need for Speed Undercover gallery for the very first shots.

    YAY!

    Uhm, WHAT?

So much for "back to its roots".

Lord god could they save money on the cinematics and put it in to the driving experience/game engine. The last one was utter pants despite all the protestations of quality from EA

How about a current gen Skitchin'?

I quite like the NFS games, the car customisation is always good fun, it's just a shame they've been going down hill since Most Wanted (though I quite enjoyed ProStreet tbf).

I'll reserve judgement on this until I've played it.

The car chase ones are the good ones. The last couple have been chav-em-ups so it's about time...

Most Wanted was decent, but not great. The last NFS game I really cared for was NFS Hot Pursuit 2, and it still wasn't as good as the original Hot Pursuit or Road Challenge.

But the absolutely greatest of them all was going through the chronology mode in the PC version of Porsche Unleashed (or Porsche 2000 as it was called here). I would love to see a proper sequel to that, maybe even let Criterion do the work on it. Since I assume, Bizarre Creations aren't an EA company.

"She follows previous star turns from Kate out of Lost"

    What game was that?

I think Most Wanted was the only NFS I trully enjoyed.

any chance of a smooth frame rate this time ea?

Hot pursuit 2 was brilliant nothing beats travelling at 240 mph with a police helicopter dropping explosive barrels and spike strips in your way with police lambo's putting road blocks in your way and ramming into your car at ever turn. Shame no NFS game since then has done anything remotely similar.

NFS Undercover at least sounds more interesting than NFS ProStreet, a game I recently picked up on the cheap and one which turned out to be the dullest racing game I've played in quite some time. That EA achieved it with the NFS franchise is quite some feat as I usually enjoy the games. :(

Dunno whether I'll bother at all this year unless it's really, really good... Midnight Club: Los Angeles is out before then and that interests me more...

Hooray, car chases. I never liked all this customisable street racing sim stuff. I presume those races will be in US locales only though, unlike the NFS games I enjoyed in the late 90s/early 00s. Oh well.
