There will probably never be a proper good racing game on the Wii. Mario Kart is not a proper racer by the way, but it sure is a fun game

Yes, I agree. Mario Kart is more of an RPG. There is no racing involved whatsoever.

I was genuinely looking forward to this game, being a fan of arcade racers.

"...but that's a big 'if'"

But... but there's no "if" in the preceding statement. In fact, that big "if" is the only "if" on the page.

For some reason that big "if" literally mustered the kind of pendantry usually reserved for the gross misuse of the word "literally" ;)

That's unfortunate. Love the idea of the track changing colour/style to match the lead car - that's brilliant!

This is a creative fuckup. All they needed to do was photocopy NFSU, that sold shitloads to regular punters who've traded their PS2 for the Wii.

Donnie, I don't think Mario Kart for cube had an outstanding online experience like the wii game.
Would you stop trolling the wii comment sections please. We get it, you don't like the wii.

@Donnie.. Let me rewrite that for you:

"Even the revered Halo 3(although still great) is basically a xbox game in both visuals (doesnt even run in true hidef) and gameplay and imo should have been marked down accordingly. Unless your into the occassional online MP the xbox has no place in todays marketplace and if your into the classic microsoft franchises buy a PC cheap of ebay (you wont be missing much)"

"HALO3(although im not a fan) is the most popular online game on any console with innovations galore. while mario kart is just double dash allmost exactly with the wiis sad excuse for a online bolted on.you even had to put in codfes to play a friend and thats probably why most dont play online with the WII,plus lag,no acheichments etc etc"

Lag? In Mario Kart? I don't think so sonny jim...

Just last night I played it online and got a full 12 player race in seconds. It's still very popular as an online game a good 18 months after release.

Mario Kart is one of the best online games this gen imo. Halo is very popular and I understand why but it doesn't come close to a 12 player online race in Mario Kart imo.

There are currently 68 Wii games rated 80 or more over at industry favourite Metacritic.
56 of those games are third party.

Surely no-one with even the most basic knowledge of games, or even acces to, say, a review site like, for example, Eurogamer, could really believe this? I've been gaming for 20+ years now and thought by now gamers would be getting smarter, not the opposite?

I'm a bit confused by the gallery images. The ingame images shown are a smidgen too basic even for the wii.

I think they had the right idea doing something different for the wii but it just wasn't different enough. They should have found the middle ground between mario kart and the normal need for speed racers.

And both of them are rubbish compared to Fight Night. We are discussing beat-em-ups right? No? Then it's a pointless comparison.

The problem with NFS:Nitro is not the Wii, the problem is the publishers attitude to the platform.

Not porting NFS:Shift and making a Wii-specific game was the right decision, but getting the development departments canteen staff to design and code the Wii game was not.

Hm, there are 3 of this game reviews already. GamePro 80%, ign 80%, eurogamer 50%.

Eurogamer is foolish again. Need for Speed Nitro is the best arcade racer for years, only Mario Kart Wii tops this.

I think you may be a little harsh on this game, because the bottom line is that it's just a lot of fun to play, plus it's great to finally see a Need For Speed on Wii that feels like it was actually developed for Wii. While I'm not sure how much replay value this will have for me long-term, in the short-term it's providing some great, thrill-a-minute fun. It's kind of a shame, because I think with just a little bit more thrown in (more depth, online play), this game would've been spectacular, as is, it makes a nice complement to Mario Kart. Also, props to EA for a great soundtrack, especially for the inclusion of Earl Greyhound's "Oye Vaya" - it's such a good racing tune.
