Nearly 2m use Xbox Live Facebook

Microsoft issue social stats update.

Nearly two million people used Facebook on Xbox Live during its first week of availability, according to a Thanksgiving hamper of Microsoft statistics.

The platform holder's bundle of social network updates went live last week, and since then almost one million people have also created a Last.fm profile, apparently.

Said people spend an average of 40 minutes using Last.fm on Xbox Live and have streamed more than 120 million minutes of music between them.

Meanwhile, the newly rebranded Zune video store, with its 1080p instant-on movies, has enjoyed digital footfall from some 1.7 million users, although Microsoft doesn't say how many bought a film. I didn't, so it's 1.699999m at best.

The turkey of the bunch, however, is quite possibly Twitter. While Microsoft insists it was "abuzz with the Xbox Live community posting tweets", it doesn't say how many did so, and nor does it say how many of those tweets were, "Isn't the whole point of Twitter to be able to use it while doing other things?"

    Use or have tried?
You see, I tried the Facebook functionality for XBox but quickly decided it was a dumb, tacked on piece of crap that was really useless (compare this to PS3's slick integration and you'll see what I mean). So is me ever having signed in to Facebook adding to that 2 million?

People seeing what it's like, surely longer term numbers would be better to guage usage and popularity?

Same as Eraser, tried it, went 'this is shit' stopped using it.

AS others have said the headline should read "2 million use Facebook once then never again!". It and Twitter are just totally pointless because they don't integrate in anyway with your games playing. Even Last.fm which I've used a few times seems pretty useless because you can't play music in game.

I don't mind things like Facebook and Twitter on 360, they just need to be more convenient. An optional blade in the Guide containing them both, would be better, so they could be checked/updated during games.

I don't like the fact that it takes up a spot between the Spotlight bar and my Friends bar on the dashboard, as it's extra distance to scroll so I can see which of my Xbox friends are online. Don't use either of them as it is.

Facebook was useful for finding the gamertags of a few old friends, but that's it.

Could you explain what you mean by this?
  • telboy007 #10 2 years ago

They are nice to haves, marketing gimmicks, etc etc. But they need to be more easily accessible and they really need to try and integrate everything better. I want to be a geek and post updates mid game about how 1337... err rubbish I am.

@MESSIAH999 - The 1080p instant download figures proves there is a large market for curious people who will look at something new, but not actually part with any cash.
  • trevd72 #12 2 years ago

missed opportunity. i was hopping for last fm to be ingame. overall pointless

How on EARTH is it possible to get negged for asking a question?

I'm actually interested to hear what the differences are, but you can be a cunt about it if you like.

    @SpaceMidget75

Cause fanboys "felt" like you were putting down their PS3s. Happens a lot. I can tell you only a couple of things that ive seen which make invalid the statement you quoted. The way its intergrated into the PS3 its only usefull to polute your profile with achievements onto your wall and even demos you download and every kind of crap of the kind... I think its the last thing anyone would want their families to see on their wall except the kiddos that are too into their console and dont even know the meaning of having a woman yet altogether so gaming on your actual social life is not showing any bad!? I dont know. I wouldnt want on my facebook ( which i dont use personally any online social services ) that kinda shit. And in order to use the actual facebook on the PS3 you need to go and get through the webbrowser which is really inconvinient and log in all over and use it with your keyboard... So If you ask me, unless you are under 18 or socially ruined and you dont mind your facebook overtaken by your consoles news and moves then the PS3 intergration is .. usefull. Yet not good to post or anything. That you could do the same way before the update.

Then again if they dont allow Twitter etc on the 360 while playing a game ( like i said I dont use those services even on my PC )its also useless 75% there as well. So the reason you got negged is cause there was nowhere to base the comment they rated up in the first place!? I dont know nor I care. Watch me get lower than you just for analyzing :p Its already funny but since EG needs the fanatic pricks all over their websites its also why i visit it again less and less by the week :)

Well I assumed he wasn't talking about the web version but the one integrated in the last firmware update. I haven't seen/used it but given that he called is 'slick' it piqued my interest, hence why I asked the question.

    Oh well, nevermind...
  • Jonny5Alive7 #16 2 years ago

They need them to run in the background more so it gives you a little alert when your playing a game in the same style as 'Somebody wants to chat' etc. You don't sit on twitter for ages, you just read the little message someone has posted and thats about it. If you could just view the message from the in-game dashboard that would be good.

The movie steaming is such a brilliant bit of tech, pity the movie selection is absolutely dreadful.
  • dmt2 #18 2 years ago

Facebook is ok, Last FM is good but needs better integration. Zune HD? I think I'll stick with DVD thanks.

Not sure why a PS3 owner is commenting here.

Either he's lost or a prick.

Have to agree that I logged onto Facebook and thought first and last time I'm doing this on the Xbox. Last FM is good and even though it is not yet integrated is a alternative to the radio on wet Sunday afternoon.

As for the HD movies, they need to bring these down in price before I'm tempted far too expensive with very little choice.

What a great idea! If only this was the case...

Well, at least its free. I thought it was going to be a stealth 'lets find another way to rip the poor fuckers off'.
Mind you, that's not to say that at some point they won't start charging for it. They made us think Avatar clothing and accessories was a freebie....
Its a pain that you can't check it in game, and that Last.fm isnt the same. Its the reason I use it on my laptop, I can listen while I browse. But hey, thats not the reason they added it. Its all advertising, and I bet its one more reason to get a few more kids to con their rents into getting them one...'But its got Facebook and Twitter and everything, mummy!'
  • Nephirion #23 2 years ago

Why would you use an xbox to run a PC application wtf ...
  • IMD1_Pk #24 2 years ago

More than I expected, thats for sure. Intereface is still a bit clumsy. I haven't tried it with my keyboard yet though.
