Nearly 1 million copies of Aion shifted News

PC News by Ellie Gibson

9 November, 2009

NCsoft has announced that nearly a million copies of PC MMO Aion: The Tower of Eternity have been sold in the West.

Over 500,000 units have been shifted in North America, while the figure for Europe stands at around 470,000 units. The game was released in the West during the last week of September.

Aion's popularity has given NCsoft's profits a boost - revenues for the most recent quarter were up by 112 per cent to reach $142 million, according to Gamespot. Net income during July to September rose by 836 per cent to hit $40 million.

NCsoft's games are still selling best in the company's home country of Korea, where 48 per cent of revenues were racked up. North America, Japan, Europe and Taiwan made up the difference.

Aion accounted for 52 per cent of global sales, while Lineage 2 was in second place on 24 per cent and the first Lineage provided 16 per cent. City of Heroes and Guild Wars only managed 4 per cent and 3 per cent each.

For those who aren't familiar, Aion lets you choose from the Elyos or Asmodian races and explore a beautiful world full of things which need punching. The game scored a respectable 7/10 on Eurogamer - read our review for the full lowdown.

well I gave up waiting for them to sort out the games many problems.
The total BS in the first few weeks about not being able to play the game unless you waited for 3 hours+ in a queue, the fact that the game is now infested with bots and goldsellers (im not exagerating, anyone new logging in for the first time will have to spend at elast 5 min adding gold spammers to thier ignore list)...
and the worst crime, zero feedback... unless you follow the twitter of someone working for NCsoft.
Their forums are a joke, no developer feedback, no GM support ingame... at all...
Say what you like about WAR etc but at least they cared enough to respond to players.

Still, the queues were gone before the resub time happened and they give in game rewards and incentives for the loyal. And, there is in game GM support, just not 24 hour.

The gold spammers are being dealt with as well, NCsoft have said that players /ignore lists will play a very important part in helping them tackle the problem, so those five minutes blocking them is time well spent. Besides, I just set up another channel tab that filters /say /shout /local /pm /legion/party and a few other info things and i very rarely see any spam at all, apart from the occasional PM which i block.
