Heavenly Sackgirl.

Retailer Play has unveiled a LittleBigPlanet pre-order campaign to give away in-game Nariko Sackgirl costumes.

Nariko, the star of Heavenly Sword, has been reinterpreted complete with shock-red hair, swishy sword and floral Oriental dress. Codes to download the character will be sent to pre-order customers during week of release.

Similar deals were unveiled for the US in August, including costumes to deck Sackboy out as Kratos from God of War, plus hessian LBP pouches and digital game guides.

In related news, has there been any word on whether there'll be a Heavenly Sword 2? Similar though it may be to GoW, I thought it was going to become a major new franchise for Sony. Or was it just another Primal?

HS2 got cancelled a while back...developers had a hissy fit over bad treatment from Sony...don't know the full story though

Primal was awesome and the soundtrack was pretty good too. Sony please relaunch that franchise!

From what I've gathered, we will receive a code to access our Nariko costume and it can be used up to 5 times. I've got a friends in the U.S. who has pre-ordered LBP for the Kratos costume. Were going to exchange codes so we get the best of both worlds! YAY!

God knows where I'll end up getting this from. Kratos looks the best so far, but it'll be cheapest from shopto and I have instore credit for Gamestation. Might have to find someone willing to give me a spare.

Nariko? not much of an incentive really is it? Kratos is what most people want.

Is Nariko not equivilant to something like the main character from grabbed by the ghoulies being a pre-order DLC bonus in a MS game, or one of the blocks from boom blox exlusive DLC for a Wii game? (rough examples but you catch my drift)

i have this on order from Play, but desperately wan't Kratos as well.

Nariko is one of the coolest new characters in recent years.

We already know there is a Helgast outfit in the game, I hope sony extend this further, with things like R&C and J&D outfits.

Yeah I prefer the Nariko one to the Kratos one, pre-ordered that. Its the red hair and ninja stylings that are key!

On the Team Ninja site, the devs have indeed given up on HS, but have embarked on a new IP.

About 0% news over on their forums but thats the place to go to look.

oh come on dude, cut me a break and allow me to use a bit of hyperbole for effect; yes, there are obviously games out there so bad that i wouldn't have even considered putting money down for them in the first place, but as far as massive blockbuster AAA releases that are actually meant to be good go heavenly sword is pretty fucking embarrassing. the gameplay itself is blandly inoffensive and i wouldn't have minded it so much were it not surrounded by some of the most juvenile and ridiculous writing ever, with character design a 12 year old's notebook would be ashamed to contain. you'd honestly rather have your mother catch you watching a heavenly sword cutscene than incredibly graphic pornography? i'm not so sure i would.

game reviewers disagree with me? good lord, my taste must be shocking!

or...i don't read IGN.

No loss. Nariko is a good character.

As to a sequel to HS, they do rap it up at the end of the game. Only Kai could really continue or Nariko does a Jebus.

HS is a pretty good GoW clone, graphics look amazing, story was pretty good, character/facial animation is on par (if not better) with MGS 4 and imo the way the game ended, doesn't really need a sequel.

Btw, the end battle was ******* amazing, it was similar to the Neo vs Smith fight in Matrix Revolutions.

The Sackgirl looks pretty cool, i'll see if anyone else does an exclusive costume first, I don't usually get games early from Play.com, MGS 4 was the first and so far, the last one.

And regarding the plot and acting, I also thought it was fantastic, great stuff. Plus the presence of Andy Serkis was absolutely amazing too.

The combat was detached though, nowhere near the class of execution of God Of War. The bits I liked best was all the third chapter fun with boss fights and projectile sixaxis work. I can only imagine that the devs had high hopes for how they wanted the combat to work, but not the gameplay creating genius to realise it. I still stick the game on for the experience of it all though.

The thing is, just like Soul Blade/Edge/Calibur, the story of Heavenly Sword is about a cursed blade that will eventually kill the wielder.

Ok so the cursed blade in the Soul series doesn't actually kill the wielder but is still about a cursed sword, "Soul Edge".

So unless they find a way to stop the wielder from meeting they're doom, the story will just keep being recycled but with a different character.

For example, Kai see's a dead Nariko next to the cursed sword and decides to wield it herself, only for her to die sometime afterwards.

This is why (imo) HS doesn't need a sequel.

I know Ninja Theory are now working on a cross-platform game (I think one of the developers is a member on here), but I don't think Heavenly Sword 2 was ever in development with them, was it? I'm guessing the franchise belongs to Sony though, so it would be a shame if they don't get another development studio to bring us the sequel.

Agreed. I really enjoyed the game, despite its many flaws. However I think it was quite a significant flop, so I doubt Sony would ever bring it back. Shame.
