Namco Bandai to publish Magna Carta 2 News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

29 April, 2009

Namco Bandai has snapped up the rights to Softmax's upcoming Xbox 360 RPG Magna Carta 2, announced earlier this year.

The story's all-new, according to IGN, and focuses on a chap with amnesia called Juto wandering around the war-torn Lanzheim Continent getting in fights that combine turn-based and real-time elements.

There's some degree of environmental action, character-switching in battle, customisable AI routines for the others, and an upgrade system based on beating up monsters and then investing the rewards in weapons and items.

The original Magna Carta, known as Tears of Blood in the US and Europe, reputedly sold 500,000 copies worldwide.

Great, so that means a 2012 release in Europe. Probably by Atari because Namco can't even be bothered to setting up a Euro publishing division.

And then we'll be waiting an extra two or three months after that down here in Australia because we're essentially a giant pimple on the arse of Namco's red-headed PAL stepchild.

Hope the game is region free then.

Also, it might come to Europe, hell even a game like Cross Edge is.

If there's one publisher that you should NOT be criticising over attitude towards European publishing, it's Namco Bandai, who've recently announced several of their previously wayward titles for local release.

Oh, and specifically for Negative: http://www.namcobandaigames.eu/en/index/

(active European publishing division?)
I'm guessing this game will probably show up by early 2010. Even better, I agree, menage, is if it's region-free. :)

a timed exclusive for the 360... this will no doubt mean that the uk will have to wait an extra 6months for it, and then a month later it will hit the ps3 with aload of new additional content.

Hell, we're still waiting for tales of vesperia now... and they've already announced the ps3 version hitting soon after with said additional content.

Seriously what is the point of Microsoft paying for timed exclusives? assuming that they actually did pay, and its not simply a way for Namco to have more time to get it up to scratch on the ps3

@Machetazo: oh, they're fine with non-JRPG games. It's just JRPGs that they consider us unworthy of being able to have in a timely fashion, if at all. Examples include Tales of Vesperia (still waiting...), Eternal Sonata (it was about 7 months), Tales of the Abyss (never released), Xenosaga I and III (they gave us II because it was shit and kept us from having the half-decent ones) and the list gets larger the further back you go.

Additionally they're one of the handful 360 publishers that region lock everything to make doubly sure you have to go out of your way to buy their software in a timely fashion if you're not privileged enough to live in the US, Canada, Japan or Asia.
