MS unveils new 360 wireless mic News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

23 June, 2009

Microsoft has announced a new Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone that will launch this autumn for around 50 dollars.

The microphone boasts "high-quality voice reproduction technology and stylish interactive motion sensors and lights", and will work across music games like Lips, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Rock Band 2, Disney Sing It: High School Musical 3 - Senior Year and The Beatles: Rock Band.

The press release is sparse, but the microphone doesn't appear to be tied to a game - rather a separate Xbox 360 peripheral like a wireless control pad.

We're checking European details and confirming specifics.

I'll stick with my Ear Force X4's thanks - although it would be nice to get rid of that wire between the headset and the controller.

Is this the same Lips mic?

Are they going to make these microphones compatible with other games?

If so I hope they change how you connect the mics to the 360. Currently it's a right dogs dinner.

It does sound like a Lips microphone - a lot like a Lips microphone, but it's an awfully strange way of marketing it. Chasing it up.

Can't you already use the wireless headset for games of this ilk? I was sure you could use the wired headset for world tour at least...

@ StooMonster - That's basically what these are. Would've been nicer if they'd just made the existing Lips mics compatible with other titles but that would remove the chance of additional sales I guess.

Oh well! Will be needing a new mic for Beatles: Rock Band for the fabtastic harmonies

Surely they are going to make the Lips wireless microphones compatible with these games too?

For those that may still become confused, as I was when I read the title on RSS, this is a wireless 'performance mic' like the one you get with Lips, not a wireless headset.

Right?

They're releasing the Lips mic as a standalone peripheral, that's all. It's just losing the Lips branding and becoming the official wireless mic.

Major Nelson has a pic of the mic on his Twitter. As you can see, it's just the black Lips microphone:

WTF? Who gave me a negative vote for saying in post #2 that the press released sounded like Lips microphone?

Same as with Bertie [staff] too in post #4.

Major Nelson posts a photo and it is one. Whoever you are, please don't vote in anything important ... like an election.

Aha, so when this is released is when we finally get a patch to use the Lips mics with RB2? Here's hoping.

"laughing at the madness of the internets"

It's a bit sad really, giving the power to the fanboys...
