original games 400-800 points - retros 100-200 please MS it's a joke having to pay so much for a game that is good but seriously not that good these days - more of a short distraction from R6 Vegas or something else

If MsPacMan is worth an 8, what is the similarly priced and almost as old Super Mario Bros worth?

Great review Kristan. 8/10 wohooooo. I love Ms Pacman. the demo is great and I can't wait to get my feckin' 360 back from the repair centre to get the full version!

Well with a game like Ms PacMan it is surely interesting to know the background? It goes some way to showing why a game of this calibre deserves an 8/10 even in this day and age.

Um... there is already a first-party and thrid-party arcade sticks out there for the 360... come on EG, u shud know this

Really like this, one of my favourite live arcade games. I play using the analogue stick and it seems fine, but then again I ever score that high.

Poor old Pac man doesn't get played any more.

Yeah, pacman never gave me any issues with the analogue stick, if you turn early,which you need to do in the arcades anyway?

Maybe I am just not that good to notice.

Those links are to the one and the same joystick. There is no official MS one, the Mad Catz one is 'officially licensed' and comes with redeemable vouchers for a couple of Live Arcade games.

Super Mario Bros got 5 retro stars, so it's in the 9/10 league, Furbs.

No need to repeat myself, (but I will anyway for those who still don't get it) but scores for XBLA games that cost about £3 should not be judged against full-priced titles.

So you really think, taking into account age of both titles, and cost, SMB is only a mark or two higher than Ms PacMan? Not querying the 8/10 here btw, just seems that theres almost a glass ceiling.

And no, I dont own a Wii.

They are such different games though. For me Ms Pacman is a great game. So is Super Mario Bros. As long as the mark they get reflects their worth as a gaming experience I don't see the need to compare.

Furbs, comparing Ms Pac-Man with SMB is a bit pointless really - I love them both, and yes, I think SMB is 'only' worth a 9 to this game's 8. I can't think of many other 25 year old games that I voluntarily play even after I've written a retrospective review.

Surely the funniest unauthorised bootleg of pacman is 'Hangly-Man'! Similar to Pac-Man but with the phrase 'Bonus Hangly-Man at 10000 points' appearing on the start page.

All the way through that review, you were saying 'Ms. Pac-Man is better than Pac-Man because of this' and 'Ms. Pac-Man is better than Pac-Man because of that' - so why didn't it get a better score?

@ Haowan - releasing old games is fine. It serves a purpose, and the XBLA versions are perfect. Maybe MS should balance it out slightly and release one old game per week along with one new game - that way we get a dose of nostalgia with something new, and perhaps people would stop tediously bashing anything 'old'.

Haowan: Titles like this are obviously not aimed at you - if you want new games, fair enough, but this sorta stuff is going to get lapped up by retro-heads and their respective parents*.

*Hell, my mum'd go nuts over it if she didn't already have the MAME version. :)

Grim - because, ultimately, as much as I love Ms. Pac-Man, giving it a 9 would cause a riot. If both versions had come out together, maybe Pac-Man would get a 7. You can't retrospectively dock marks; I gave Pac-Man an 8 because it was a real thrill to see it up there. My inner nine year old was whooping :)

Never liked Ms Pac-Man as much as Pac-Man. Certainly there's more levels, and a faster pace, but the ghosts don't really have their own behaviours any more, they behave much more randomly and tend to clump together more, ruining the lovely design of the original game.

Pity the achievements are so "by the numbers" too. I had the full 200 achievement points for this game in a matter of minutes.

I do agree with some here posting on the price thing. A port of Ms Pac-Man... this sort of thing should be much cheaper. I daresay I'd buy a lot more of the retro XBLA ports if they were 100-200 MS points.

Probably most of the vitriol comes from people who view the release of the product as a money-grabbing act rather than a genuine service - if I'd already paid for pac-man I'd consider being given the opportunity to pay out the same for this a bit of a slap in the face.

@krudster: Yes, I think the ratio of remakes to new content is horrifically large and at least for me it's actually turning me off the service.

Personally I'm only bashing this because of the reason above, rather than simply because it is old; I don't think it adds anything to what's already there and I think there would be muhch more value and time would have been better spent converting something that doesn't have a practically identical doppelganger already on the service.

I also bashed New Rally-X, but that's because it's shite.

I played the demo, but I gave up when it became clear that, even after many years of FPS gaming, I was far better at Pacman 20 yrs ago than I am now!

I haven't read the comments yet, so I don't know if it's been posted...

There already is a good 360 arcade stick - It is marketed for DOA, but can be used for any D-Pad games. It's made by Hori, and I've used it - it's pretty good.
