MotorStorm update released

Only US version delayed.

Update: Sony has just confirmed to Eurogamer that the UK update is now live. Instructions are to go online first to download the patch, then go into Store and download Time Attack. If you do it the other way around it won't work - you'll have to delete the game's data utility if you've already made this mistake.

Over in the US, meanwhile, MotorStorm's 1.2 update - set to introduce Time Attack mode - has been delayed due to a last-minute big-discovery that's thrown the patch back into testing.

That's according to Felice Standifer, US producer on the game, who used Sony's increasingly helpful US blog to explain the situation.

"Right before we were planning to go live with the 1.2 updates with Time Attack mode, a new issue was found on the patch that could result in people not being able to establish a network connection," Standifer explains.

"So, unfortunately, for now we need to continue to run tests and monitor the fix to ensure that it does not occur when the patch goes live."

Time Attack had been set to breathe new life into Evolution Studios' good but short-lived racer. As you can probably guess, it lets you try and set your best time for each track and then race off against a "ghost car".

It also uploads ghosts to the PlayStation Network, and offers the chance to face off against up to seven ghosts at once - with expert times from Evolution available to compete against.

It also sorts out a bunch of bugs. For more details on the update, check out our previous coverage.

That sucks. Glad they caught it tho before deployment!
  • Steroyd #2 5 years ago

Yet people will complain about the delay regardless.
  • Dr Strangelove #3 5 years ago

That's a shame, not the first time it's been delayed.

But hey-ho, at least they are attempting to continually improve the game. Let's hope these sort of teething problems give them (the devs, Sony and others) the necessary experience to get it right next time.

Gamers don't like to be kept waiting.

If this was for a Microsoft game, I'm sure that the buggy patch would have been released anyway and then a patch unleashed at a later date to fix it! C'mon, you know I'm right as their Quality Control sucks.. ;) LOL

    Sony's isn't any different

When it comes to hardware reliability, it certainly is! ;)

Hundreds of thousands of dead PS2s say you're wrong.

Time Attack was on the Playstation store, but after I downloaded and installed it, I can't get the game to load. It just freezes on a black screen.
  • Halo.Jones #9 5 years ago

Delete your game data cache and try again, it should be working now.

The product description does actually tell you to download the latest updates before installing the time attack.

    Anyway....

Download the new update first and then get the Time Attack download from the store.

Ah, ok. That's dumb. I mean, how many of you actually read the product description when you know exactly what it is, and that you want it.

/checks his PS3 manual for delete game data cache
  • GamesConnoisseur #11 5 years ago

I congratulate Sony for making updates (firmware) also games enhancement patches in a short time but I have to say that their current method of downloading is not very clear!

Obviously how many would know properly to download patch from game and NOT to download Store time attack mode first? People do not read the instruction properly, this goes for where I downloaded Lemmings all levels and not working before I realised I needed to download demo FIRST before ... etc

Why dont they program it so it ll go automatic, sorry need to download patch first, oh hey I ll do it for you and you just sit there!
  • SeesThroughAll #12 5 years ago

Yes! For once the yankees have to wait longer!

    Take that! :p
  • ligurmatic #13 5 years ago

I downloaded the time attack mode before installing the 1.2 patch.

Deleting the 1.1 patch from "Game Data Utility", running the game and letting it download the new patch worked fine for me.

Wayhey!! It's a big weekend for PS3 owners then huh? Time attack, on a 3 month old game. Good times :)
  • OnlyMe #15 5 years ago

Yup, and a good game too. Who cares how old it is? The X360 still hasn't got anything that can compare (No, Colin McRae Dirt isn't even remotely as good). And isn't Forza at least a week old now? Tsk, get on with the times will ya! That's like soooo last week.
  • Yaster #16 5 years ago

    ZOMG Sony hates Europe!

    Oh, wait a minute
  • JediMasterMalik #17 5 years ago

@captainrentboy - That's horrible trolling. Especially as 3 months is about the right time for DLC to extend the life of a game.
  • captainrentboy #18 5 years ago

    Ohhh calm down you saps!
Time trials are a lovely freebie.....The kind of thing that should've been there on launch day, yes, but lovely all the same.
Ohh and I'm loving Colin Mcrae (I realise I'm in the minority) it's certainly instantly more accessible and varied than Motorstorm. Graphics are sweeter too.

Oh bollux. I deleted My save file by mistake. did not know about the game data files. Damn kopperburg!!
Ah well, It'll be good fun playing through again. Any free content is great too!

"Ohh and I'm loving Colin Mcrae (I realise I'm in the minority) it's certainly instantly more accessible and varied than Motorstorm. Graphics are sweeter too."

    Sweet - a special edition then ?

My DIRT copy certainly does not have better graphics than Motorstorm. Very nice graphics and far from ugly sure, but also bad framerate and tearing issues.
  • woodnotes #22 5 years ago

Colin McRae is defintly more varied, but I prefer the gameplay of Motorstorm, and I feel somewhat enclosed on McRae
  • captainrentboy #23 5 years ago

No, no I don't have a special edition of the game I just appreciate that it does a bit more than Brown in its colour scheme :/
And neither am I an ''Xbot'' (reeeeally hard to take anyone seriously who uses that term by the way) as I'm quite happy to admit to the company's various massive faults, Microsoft's build quality on the console for one is fooking diabolical, and they really deserve to be in a lot more shit than they are with regards to the problem.
I just like to have sly lil digs at the PS3 now and again that's all. I guess I'm just a lil jealous at all the top notch games they've been getting, and the fact that I can't afford one.
  • morriss #24 5 years ago

Why can't it just auto-update like the 360? Put the disc in, the update pops up, and you're away. Piece of pish.
  • Yaster #25 5 years ago

    @morriss

The update IS downloadable in the game. it's only the time trial maode which is activated by downloading from the store.

If you only want to correct all the bugs in the game you don't need to go anywhere near the store.
  • smelly #26 5 years ago

    Im STILL against game patches/updates/downloads.

Even if they do make games "better"

I'm sorry to break the news, but that is EXACTLY how you update MotorStorm. In the disc goes, click on "online" and it updates the game for ya.

The PSN thing is just a stupid activation file. The time attack mode is indeed part of the update.
  • slickster #30 5 years ago

i love the update good stuff ;o)
  • smelly #31 5 years ago

    >smelly: Even Virtual Console games?

Did i say "ps3 suxors, long live nintendo or something"? No. I just said i'm kinda against game patches/updates in this manner.

Yes I realise at the moment it's a GOOD thing - but im scared of where it'll progress too in the future

the ps3 and 360 are already similar to pc's what with the multiple console configurations and all that crap - I wouldnt want them to go the whole hog..

The whole idea of release day patches for console games scares the shite out of me (and YES i realise that hasnt happened yet.. I just see this as the very start of a very slippery slope)
  • Les #32 5 years ago

I agree with Smelly, patches on console games suck. Make sure you get it right the first time. It's so ridiculous that people put up with poor quality software releases. On a fucking Windows machine, I can understand that the developers can't possibly test each and every hardware configuration and patches might be necessary but for a console?!

Adding additional functionality however is a different thing, as long as it doesn't go the EA way: making people pay for stuff that used to be free.
  • Darren #33 5 years ago

I agree patches suck and that the MotorStorm update could have been better handled with the patch and Time Attack included as one update but I'm just thankful that my PS3 stores these patches permanently unlike on the 360, where I seem to constantly be updating the same games over and over again. It appears to only cache X patches then overwrites older ones with newer ones when it needs the space. Stupid really as it means that should Xbox Live or my ISP be down, I'd no longer be able to play Oblivion if the patch has been wiped. Thanks for that, Microsoft! /rolls eyes
