Motorstorm 2 sales hit 1 million mark

Downloadable content being worked on.

More than a million copies of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift have now been sold around the globe.

That's according to Sony exec Michael Denny, speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz.

The game was released at the start of November and debuted at number 29 in the UK all-formats chart, before falling the following week to 35. It was a busy week for big releases, mind. Sales have since grown and Evolution Studios is already at work on new downloadable content for the game.

"We're pleased with the high Metacritic rating of 82 per cent and it's sold over a million units worldwide," said Denny.

Wonder if they're as pleased with Pacific Rift's Eurogamer review score?

humm either the last weeks sales have been huge or someones figures are way out!! sales trackers have been showing this as being at 0.25 million at the end of last week

This is what potentially happens when you find new games in the Sale bin already.

Motorstorm 2 is definitely a good laugh on splitscreen/multiplayer. There really are some fantastic tracks on this game.

    Sold to retailers.

Your score for Pacific Rift was way off I'm afraid. Game of the year for me.

Still can't see the attraction of Motorstorm, but I'm glad there are people that like it, and that it's selling well.

It's a really good game, marred by some rough edges around the sometimes fabulous visuals, and the rather unfortunate hold-over from the previous games of unusual difficulty spikes. I'm really starting to hit these now, and I'm around 40 - 50% complete.

"Everyone I know who has bought this has loved it, really looking forward to it for Christmas."

Very much so, I look forward to getting it. I online much improved?

I don't really like Motorstorm myself, the controls just feels a bit disconnected imo. Doesn't feel like the wheels and the ground is actually in direct contact. I liked PURE's controls much better.

    Best arcade racer EVUR!

The comparisons between Motorstorm and Pure are superficial. Under the bonnet they're quite different beasts.

    Under the bonnet! I made a ha-ha!

@vorlon_man I've taken their figures as gospal but thought the US figures at least were fairly close as software sales figures get official release in the states. And it's charted badly in the UK which make a million sound like alot, again unless the last week of sales have been through the roof which could be the case across the industry. I work in a shop (not computer games) and last week was a vast improvment over november. Guess we'll find out once the other figures start to filter through.

    Quite enjoyed the first Motorstorm..

Then along came Pure which shat all over it.

"The comparisons between Motorstorm and Pure are superficial. Under the bonnet they're quite different beasts."

That's what I've been telling people for ages. Comparing Motorstorm and Pure is like comparing SSX and DiRT. Why?
  • des #16 3 years ago

    Maybe in dreamland...
  • peterfll #17 3 years ago

Yes, I couldn't stand Pure, but that's a massive subjective opinion because I can't stand all that jump in the air and press 14 different buttons to pull of a trick before you land. That type of game is just not my bag.

But So I accept that Pure is fabulous if that's what floats your boat, and it floats a lot of people's boats. But it doesn't make MS crap in comparison, nor vice-versa.
  • JHuxley #18 3 years ago

I like Pure, but it's as much a racing game as SSX. If anything the jump-heavy course design makes it even less of a racer. I mean, have you actually tried to win a race without doing tricks? How about crashing with all four wheels on the ground? It's actually very tricky because the mechanics are so heavily geared towards tricks and as a result incredibly forgiving on the ground (otherwise you'd crash after every other jump).

I have room for both. They're both good games, but they're both different games.

  • SEVQA #22 3 years ago

£20 each for MotorStorm 2, Resitance 2 and LBP @ Shopto - smashing deal in my opinion and ur punishing yourselves to not buy this game at that price or the other two for that matter!
  • SEVQA #23 3 years ago

Yeah clearly loss leaders - but just about the only games I want on PS3 this crimbo so all good - Ill say to the folks, you can buy these games as gifts for xmass (I’ve bought them already but you can just give the cash for the them! So that's £35 per game then! lol)

Ill turn over a new leaf in 2009 promise!
  • ozallez #24 3 years ago

i love the game... how EG views it as average is beyond me. Its everything the first game had and more.

not as keen on the online setup... u have to join a random game rather than having a choice of lobbies like in the first one.

The tracks are superb and i'll be playing it for a long time yet. About 2/3rds thru the tickets and barely had a crack at online. A few podiums so far tho :D

MotorStorm 2 is awesome, even at 82% metacritic highly underrated. One of the highlights of the year.
