MotorStorm 2 demo on Thursday News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

14 October, 2008

Sony America has announced that the MotorStorm Pacific Rift demo will be released for free on PlayStation Store this Thursday, 16th October.

Speaking on the US PlayStation Blog, Evolution Studios' audio man Alan McDermott announced the game's soundtrack and then mentioned the demo.

Evolution is based in Runcorn here in the UK, so you might assume McDermott's post means it will be out in Europe on Thursday too, but we're double-checking anyway. (UPDATE 10.15am: Sony has yet to officially respond, but we've heard through the grapevine that the demo will be out here on Thursday too.)

When it does turn up, you'll be able to trail around the Rain God Spires track in single-player or split-screen two-player, so it's most likely the same as the limited-distribution September demo sent out to Qore subs in the US and randomly-selected European PSN users.

As for the soundtrack, McDermott talks a bit about the thought process behind it, then lets rip with the full listing, complete with notes on each.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is due out in the middle of next month, and you can check out our MotorStorm: Pacific Rift gamepage for more in the meantime.

Look for our review of the Sony racer pretty soon, too.

This is one of two articles with unforgiveable 'US style' taglines to accompany them:

"Plus: soundtrack announced, explained.
LOTRO curators hire Flagship, Blizzard staff."

There's nothing sadder than following a linguistically retarded pseudo journalistic writing style in what can only be an attempt to appear grown-up and serious. Do you have some kind of deep-seated aversion to conjunctions?

Meh, the demo wasn't special, got bored with it in 2 minutes. Wipeout is all the racing I need this year.

I wasn't too impressed by the demo at first - it seemed far too similar to the first game, even the track looked like a remix of bits from the first game - but repeated plays revealed its charms so it is now pre-ordered. I've seen videos of some of the other tracks and in all honesty the desert to tropical island setting isn't really that obvious in the same way as, say, SEGA Rally but hopefully there'll be some tracks where you're racing through muddy forest paths instead of mountainous cliffsides with huge drops.

@bad09

Do it, it's cheap, totally beautiful and awseome and will not hurt your wallet for all other cool stuff. It's really good.

I don't think this demo will be on the EU store this week, the game isn't being released here until 14 Nov, and there's no point releasing a demo a month before the game.

Would be interested to see if it is indeed the same demo - as later builds of the game have demonstrated notable improvements in the graphics.

I hope so too, but I don't think they will put out 2 demo's personally. What's the point of releasing an older build to certain people?

... with two different vehicles plus it has a split screen mode for two players. That's about the same as what most racing game demos offer. They're hardly going to give away too much otherwise you wouldn't buy the game! LOL

I got a code for this same demo ages ago. The graphics (when compared with the recent builds of Motorstom 2) were pretty crap to be honest, and I probably only played it a couple of times.
