Mothership Zeta weapons, perk details

Plus, you'll be able to revisit the ship.

Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta developer Jeff Gardiner has said that the upcoming downloadable content has "the most high tech weaponry in the game" and released a bit more info on your new toys and the inevitable new perk.

According to Gardiner, speaking to MTV, there's a Shock Baton for melee fighters alongside the previously announced Alien Atomiser (pistol), Alien Disintegrator (rifle) and Drone Cannon.

Gardiner also mentions a new grenade, the Cryo Grenade, "which freezes enemies for a short period of time". "On top of that there are new unique weapons, and a new heavy weapon." One of those may be the Drone Cannon, which he didn't mention in the main body of his comments.

As for the perk, it's called "Xenotech Expert" and "increases the damage you do with alien weapons, including the Alien Blaster if the player had found that in the wasteland". The perk is mission-specific, however, as the level cap is not being increased again.

Mothership Zeta sees players responding to a distress call in the Capital Wasteland and being transported to an alien ship, out of which it seems they have to fight their way. New screenshots released yesterday elaborate on some of the very un-Fallout environments.

MTV's interview also mentions that once you've finished the main DLC quest, you'll still be able to return to the alien ship, and that this will be worthwhile to access the "Alien Epoxy" which automatically repairs items by 25 per cent even if you don't have a duplicate.

Mothership Zeta is due out for PC and Xbox 360 on 3rd August and will cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60). It will be available for PS3 as part of the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3 due out in October on all formats, and as a downloadable at some point after that.

Yes lesson learned, GOTY edition from now on.
  • wellzy4eva #3 3 years ago

So you think we shouldn't buy good games and just wait for the GOTY editions?

You do know it takes a while for such games to come out right?

I don't know why people are surprised by GOTY editions. The same company only did it twice before with Morrowind and Oblivion.

As i purchased FO3 for both PC and PS3, sold the PS3 copy ready for the GOTY edition, I probably have spent more than i should of... trying not to think about it :)

I will be surprised if the GOTY edition comes out on time though.... shall see.

While all this DLC for Fallout 3 is nice and everything, it has varied a lot in quality from the lacklustre Operation Anchorage to the awesome Point Lookout. At almost £7 a pop these five DLCs will have cost nearly £35 in total, which is the price of a full game, and the amount of content offered doesn't come close to what the standalone Oblivion and Fallout 3 games offered. In summary they're a little overpriced on reflection but the fact that they're spread out makes it feel less so.

Even if you take each pack as 3 hrs gameplay (underestimate) thats 15 hrs of quality for £35. Sure it's less than Oblivion or F3, but pretty good value when compared without other full retail games.

    No level-cap increase?
    No buy.

I really don't feel that these DLC packs are overpriced considering you ussually get a minimum of 3hrs gameplay out of them and with Point lookout I got 15 hrs gameplay so overall you get almost the equivalent of a full game when you combine all the packs together. Frankly I just hope this is the last DLC pack because I want The Elder Scrolls V Bethesda!

It's been more expensive than other single player games, but then again, when I look at my saves I've got more than 80 hours of play time and I'm not half-way done with the game yet. :) So compared to most recent single player games it's sure been much much cheaper even with all the DLC if you look at value per hour.

I really hope Bethesda (and others) use somehting different than microsoft live for their next game though, those Microsoft points might work well on the xbox where I guess typing in your credit card all the time would be troublesome but they just suck on the pc - and the out of game games for windows live client sucks aswell even going as far as requireing that you have an xbox to access certain functions of your profile...

But overall I've been pretty pleased with the DLC, and I hope we'll see similar things happen for future sandbox games.
