More Red Dead DLC later this year

Outlaws to the End not the end.

Rockstar has said it plans to produce more downloadable content for Red Dead Redemption following the release of the Outlaws to the End co-op pack in June.

"There will definitely be more DLC packs to follow, later this summer and into the fall," the developer said on its website.

"Some exciting things are planned - we'll be announcing info including release time frames and pricing on those in the coming months."

Apparently the devs are considering a variation on Free Roam mode that locks everyone to Expert-Aim - something requested by a number of players.

"Free Roam has been designed to serve as a wide open lobby experience with as few restrictions as possible so people could play they way they were used to in single player (be it casual, normal, or expert targeting)," the developer explained.

"That said, we always listen to feedback from our players and may be including this in a future update. If it does happen, please be advised it may take a while to create, code, properly test and implement - so may not be something you see until later this summer but we are looking into it and figuring out if we can make it happen."

We're told to expect more details on the free Outlaws to the End pack soon (although we already have some details and a screenshot). Check out our Red Dead Redemption review while you're at it.

Co Op missions to rob trains, one team defends them, one team attacks....GO!
  • Derblington #4 2 years ago

Excellent news, but before they get this out can they please fix the unable to join online games and disconnect issues? Otherwise, lots of people won't be able to play it.
  • YenooR #5 2 years ago

Yes more content for this GOTY game. Brillant
  • Ranger101 #6 2 years ago

I haven't played online yet, and probably won't until the expert mode free roam is solved - as I've heard its near enough unplayable with too many douchebags with auto-aim that is game destroying.
  • Beano #7 2 years ago

More single player stuff please. Maybe new types of missions that is role based :)

I'd rather see some of the awful bugs fixed so I can get my deadly assassin pre-order outfit.

Did the mission where you shoot the skull after drinking the tonic last night, had cursor precisely on skull using deadeye, pulled the trigger and the cursor jumped to my horse which then got shot in the head and died (the horse was ~20ft away from the skull) - priceless yet bloody irritating as had to reload.

Just had my first online experience last night...bloody good fun teaming up with a mate and then sorting out some of those pesky gangs! Hoping for a posse of about 4 or 5...that would be sweet.
  • VandelayIndustries #10 2 years ago

I'd love them to do an 'Episodes of Liberty City' style DLC for this. There must be a other stories to tell in that landscape.
  • Subquest #11 2 years ago

    @10 + 11: Yes and YES

    More of this game please.

edit: How EG must regret that 8. Even with one or two bugs this is GOTY material.

Definately need the autoaim multiplayer sorted. Had one game online the other day and didn't understand how everyone was wiping me out from across the map in a barrage of bullets as I'd always had expert aim in the single player. Thought it would be a no brainer not to allow autoaim in multiplayer.
  • Linkified #13 2 years ago

@Subquest: Maybe because they thought it didn't deserve it for all the weird glitches and bugs I would of given it a lower score. plus Rockstar general appreceiation of archaic control schemes is also worth a lower score.
  • Monkey_Puncher #14 2 years ago

Auto aiming is for cowgirls....see what I did there? Sexist and degrading all in one!
  • Harmonica #15 2 years ago

The autoaiming is a bit of a problem going solo against people using it in Free Roam. But if you have a few friends you can rope into your posse, then running them types out of town is totally doable.

But yeah, expert only free roam would be nice.

For anyone who likes Westerns, the game is as near as damnit a 10/10. EG review was fashionably underscored IMO.

edit: you guys know that it does show if someone is using expert targeting or not when the kill message comes up? You can still gloat over expertly knifing someone from 100 yards away if they're using 'casual' mode.

I dunno, I'm loving the game but I think I the 8/10 was reasonable. Not so much for the glitches (which you expect with sandbox games of this scope), but the controls. How long have we had analogue sticks on our controllers now? So why do I need to press a button to run? Why do I have to return to a house whenever I want to save?

Just because we're able to get by with these flaws, it doesn't mean they're not there. For me personally, RDR loses points for stuff like that, but wins them back for sheer yee-haw-ness. I mean, any game which allows you to hogtie a nun and leave her on a railway track gets a 9/10 from me! But (thankfully for the games industry) I'm not a professional reviewer.

I agree with VandelayIndustries and pswii6o.
I'd love to see some DLC episode packs with new characters and single player storylines like the GTA ones.

What a game. Simply brilliant! There is, however, one thing I would change (or rather add) and that is to put in split screen., Me and my wife love playing games like L4D, Gears etc together and we would have liked the option to do the same with this in free-roam.
  • Headstapler #19 2 years ago

    @lucky_jim

In regards to saving your game. There is no need to keep traveling back to your house every time. Use your campsite kit to save. That way you can save where you wish too save.

edit: You can also use the campsite to fast travel to your destination.

    Split-screen would be amazing!

As for auto-aim, as a visually impaired person I found it a godsend in the single player. If I couldn't use it in multiplayer I'd never be able to hit anybody - ever.

Having said that, I totally understand why people would want an Expert Aiming-only option. I can't imagine there's anything more galling than having taken the time to master Expert aiming, only for somebody with no expertise to easily take them out by having the computer doing the targeting for them.

Perhaps three play options are necessary here; one option where everything stays as it is, one option for Expert only and one option where all players vote for one aiming option (whether it be casual, normal or expert) and everyone is forced to stick with that.

    Just a thought.

But yes, I think they should also fix the issue where you get stuck on a permanent loading-screen when leaving multiplayer.

I loved the idea of this game. And was really excited by the premise. The only reason i didnt buy it was it was sold out everywhere. So i rented it instead. As a rental i played through the story missions during the week, didnt bother too much with side quests (apart from poker - which the AI is shit at, so was able to make a lot of money). Didnt play online, i avoid online gaming, just doesnt work for me.

And as much as i really wanted to enjoy it, i enjoyed the world, i enjoyed the scenario.. But i just didnt feel there was much "game" there. Each "quest" consisted of talking to someone for 5 minutes, travelling somewhere for 10 minutes, then 2 minutes of actual gameplay. You could argue it is an "interactive story" - but i dont buy that either .. no film would force you to sit through 20 minutes of a horse riding through landscapes.

It strikes me as one of those games of this generation that people WANT to be fun, but when it not actually is all that much.

Sure i giggled when i found out i could hog tie a woman and put her on the train tracks for an achievement. But as a "game" it just didnt work for me.

It *DID* get fun near the end up in the mountains, but then it ruined it with all the back home levels which were incredibly easy and did nothing for the game itself - rather just telling a very bad dull story.

No doubt i'll get negated for this, as you're not allowed to not like this game. But that's the way i felt after playing it.
  • Bulbatron #22 2 years ago

For me, the horse riding was all part of the fun. More so than driving in the GTA games ever was.

You certainly shouldn't get negged for having your own opinion. You might get negged for your suggestion that everybody else was somehow deluding themselves into thinking the game was fun, and that somehow only you are seeing it for what it really is.

Games are usually popular for a reason, even if you don't agree with it.

Using GTA IV as an example. I'm didn't find it all that fun to be honest, but I can see why other people did and I completely understand why the game was so popular.

    >More so than driving in the GTA games ever was.

I'd agree riding a horse is more fun than driving in GTA4 (which was REALLY dull imho). But i wont agree it was more fun than vice city (which was REALLY fun)

    >suggestion that everybody else was somehow deluding themselves into thinking the game was fun

That's not what i meant.. but i agree it could read like that. Cheers.

Yeah, I did like, Vice City, I must admit. It was definitely a series high. I think my favourite of the GTA games was San Andreas because there was more stuff to do. Just a shame the music wasn't a patch on that found in Vice City.

With the GTA games, my main reason for playing them was just to screw around. The only reason I took part in the story missions was to get as much as possible unlocked. With Red Dead Redemption, I really enjoyed the story and most of the missions as well, so earning the totally unlocked world was a pleasure in itself. So really, the whole experience has, for me at least, been much better than any of the GTA games.
  • TheJuriel #25 2 years ago

Bullshit. Nothing complicated about restricting Free Roam to Expert. You already do it in other game modes.

Still, I'm happy if we just get that at some point. Less random ride-by shootings for kicks.
  • Harmonica #26 2 years ago

"As a rental i played through the story missions during the week, didnt bother too much with side quests (apart from poker - which the AI is shit at, so was able to make a lot of money)."

smelly you basically powered through the storyline and you're complaining that it all feels a little too samey. And that riding horses is boring? It's a Western game. You can't complain that its slower paced and you're meant to take your time and meander through it.
  • SilentNinja92 #27 2 years ago

Absoultely love the online component of the game

Having no restrictions is brilliant. You can help out others in missions, have gang wars or just mess about helping when you want, and then when the time is right go on a rampage and kill everyone just becuase its funny =P
  • TheJuriel #28 2 years ago

"The reviewer of this game will go down in history as "that clueless idiot from Eurogamer" mark my words!"

Eh. I have Red Dead. Got it for the pretty sunsets, and because I like westerns. 8/10 is an accurate score for it.

Standard GTA stuff, repetitive un-challenging gameplay, plenty of minor glitches, unpolished multiplayer. It's good for what it is, but it's not remarkable for what it is (beyond being a westerner, yay).

Another one for single player DLC.

@smelly: I personally love riding through the landscape at my pace the most in this game, drinking in the many vistas and wondering what view is around the next corner. Never seen a game that manages to capture the mood of a looming thunderstorm more convincingly than this one. It's almost as if you smell the rain coming. I love these poetic, non-gamey moments more than all the shooting and action (which I also find nicely implemented). Horses for courses, I guess.
