More October 250GB PS3 evidence

Another retailer steps forward.

Eurogamer has been told by another UK retailer that a 250GB PS3 Slim bundle "is a definite for October".

Our source, who asked for anonymity, said the shop's suppliers didn't know which game or games will be combined with the console, but they did say that Sony plans to unveil the bundle or bundles at the Tokyo Game Show later this month - 24th to 27th September.

This is the third bit piece of evidence this week. A Spanish shop kicked off the stories, revealing a €350 FIFA 10-plus-250GB PS3 Slim bundle bound for October.

A top UK retailer backed this up a day later, but claimed the UK will get a choice of game accompaniments when splashing £299.99 on the bundle. Those titles, we were told, will be Assassin's Creed II, Gran Turismo 5 and Uncharted 2.

Sony continues to decline comment on the matter, but has a poor track record of keeping secrets lately - the PS3 Slim and PSPgo being cases in point. Whether this one can go the distance remains to be seen.

end of october maybe. imho it would be too soon after the slim's announcement of 120Gb to announce a 250Gb bundle should it be beginning of october...

Please please please please please please please please please please please be backwards compatible! Please!
  • Widge #3 2 years ago

Yes I'm sure that will happen
  • Widge #4 2 years ago

No need to hold off, buy one off someone who is selling their 60GB to move to a slim.
  • chronom4n #5 2 years ago

that is quite a choice bundle. I just hope that it turns out to be true and it seems to be more and more the case.
  • SeesThroughAll #6 2 years ago

250GB drives are lowering in cost, so it's only normal that both Sony and MS will begin using those in bundles. I'm in fact surprised that this didn't happen before.
  • cianchristopher #7 2 years ago

It won't have BC! I know that sounds a bit too definitive for someone who's purely speculating - but I think we'd all be completely taken by surprise if it did!

250GB is very cool though! As I also own a 360 I'd love to se MS release a 250 or 500GB for the 360 (maybe 360GB would be a good fit!) as game installs can take up a lot of space. I'd love to see it for a competitive price too, though...

When did Sony say they were starting their movies-on-demand service in Europe?

I suspect these bundles will be timed along with its launch?
  • MiniAmin #9 2 years ago

    @ Svd_grasshopper

Yes people still want BC. I have a couple consoles, very limited space. I still haven't completed God of War. When mates come over not all of them like Fifa 09 thus we sometimes play the classic PES 4/5. There are still many reasons to play PS2. It's still shifting thousands of units weekly...

    @ Cian

I agree that it won't have BC... but one can hope!

people whining about BC, do you really still play your ps2??
Yep. I'm playing Okami right now, and might move on to some Timesplitters 2 later.
  • Linkified #11 2 years ago

Shopto is not a 'big' company or 'trusted' with all there shady dealings EG.
  • M_of_the_sys #12 2 years ago

    @donnie080208

I beg to differ. The average consumer would probably not know any better. "Oooooh. It has more Jeejabits! It must be better!" And it'll fly off the shelves.
  • Widge #13 2 years ago

If they do a polished conversion like GoW 1&2, i.e. up the resolution and framerate, add in AA, even patch in widescreen, I'm all for bluray re-releases. Way ahead of PS2 BC.

    GTA TriplePack would be immense.
  • Bazfrag #14 2 years ago

    "It has more Jeejabits!"

You may jest, but i once overheard a Dixons employee telling a customer that she should get a ps2 over a 'cube because it pushed more PolyLons :/ ....and she said "Good, i like more colours and sound!"

Wrong on so many levels that a thousand kittens actually died instantaneously

@mr-writer : You play the games you like best, and you don't want to have to stop playing them because another console comes along. You wouldn't want to have to ditch all the music on vinyl when CD came along, right? You'd want the vinyl music available on CD.

The other two consoles do BC quite well, it's quite baffling that the console you pay the highest premium for doesn't seem capable of it. (Yes I will concede it packs in a lot of other stuff, but BC should have been higher up their priority list than it was).
  • Widge #16 2 years ago

Lots of the vinyl that I used to have is not available on either CD or Digital Download. Luckily the steady stream of new music is more than compensation and in a lot of cases, better. I still have a nostalgia for the old stuff but christ I don't let it hold me back. Besides my music fun has been infinitely better since I went digital. I certainly don't eye up my PC or mp3 player thinking "I wish I could stick a vinyl in that".

The same applies to my PS3, I have far too many new shiny PS3 games for my time available to go off through old PS2 games.
  • kangarootoo #17 2 years ago

"You wouldn't want to have to ditch all the music on vinyl when CD came along, right? You'd want the vinyl music available on CD."

Loafs of vinyl wasn't reissued on CD. The people that still wanted to listen to their vinyl held on to their record players. What they certainly didn't do was complain that the new CD players didn't play vinyl records as well.

This whole BC thing is just ammunition for those who have already made up their mind to be peeved.
  • miiiguel #18 2 years ago

Well, I have about 150 PS2 games and it would be nice if I could play them on future PS boxes.

On the music analogy, the thing about new music being better is so wrong in so many ways, I feel dizzy. And it's not a matter of saying Sonic Youth was so much better than than the White Stripes, is just... different decades! Diferent stuff!!

Well it would be nice, but it would also be nice if my PS3 made my breakfast. The thing is that its just not a big deal either way. Whilst I still wanted to play old PS2 games I couldn't play in my PS3 (GH1 and 2), I kept my PS3 slim. When I stopped, I got rid of it and it must be over a year at least since I used the BC in my 60GB.

If it really matters, a PS2 slim is a small investment in every sense.
  • miiiguel #20 2 years ago

"Well it would be nice, but it would also be nice if my PS3 made my breakfast. "

Can "peeved" be used? I just learned this new word. Anyway, what we're discussing here is too personal stuff. I collect video-games, lots of them, so I want to be able to play them, if only for historical reasons. Keeping a PS2 - as I do - is a fair option, though I hardly compare "making breakfast" to BC.

    Loafs of vinyl... mmmmmmmm
  • kangarootoo #22 2 years ago

"as I do - is a fair option, though I hardly compare "making breakfast" to BC"

    Its exactly the same! ;)

Peeved is fine. I just feel that people who act like its this massive deal breaker and being disingenuous.
  • miiiguel #23 2 years ago

I was trying to use "peeved" to describe someone who compares BC to making breakfast. Seems that I failed.

On-topic: it really depends, doesn't it? if you only play GH it sure doesn't matter, if you have a massive PS2 games collection it probably does matter.
  • kangarootoo #24 2 years ago

    @miiiguel

Ah, good call on the use of peeved. I guess I was far too concerned with the sound of my own voice to catch the subtlety. That is me told :)
  • shotgun44 #25 2 years ago

my 60GB was worth it just to play the God Of War games without having to lug my ancient PS2 to uni...
  • MiniAmin #26 2 years ago

    @ Kangarootoo

BC isn't ammunition for those who have already made their minds up to be peeved. I certainly hope I didn't convey that sense in my post. I wouldn't hold off buying a PS3 because it wasn't BC. It's simply something that'd be nice to have. Comparing it to making breakfast is a bit far-fetched. Gamers often get stuff if we moan enough. A new 2D Sonic has just been announced you know?
  • Domstercool #27 2 years ago

I still play PS2 games as I've got a huge RPG collection to work through. I was lucky to get a imported US 60GB release, so I have no problem with my imported RPGs
  • notorious_roy #28 2 years ago

It's real, the store where I work also has a 250 GB Slim console in its line-up. October 15th :)
  • zedzee #29 2 years ago

"people whining about BC, do you really still play your ps2?? "

I have loads of perfectly good PS2 games that I absolutely love playing and I want to complete them, so yes, I'd love to have BC featured but I'm not holding my breath on the 250GB model to have it, since the 120GB doesn't and Sony have been really arrogant about it.

In fact, this generation around, Sony has made so many mistakes with their prized brand, I can't think where I should begin listing them; it's a very distinguished and long list of mishaps, bad marketing, complete and out right lies, more lies and undeniable facts as to how they've single-handedly screwed up one of the best brands the world has seen over the past two decades or so.

"Sony continues to decline comment on the matter, but has a poor track record of keeping secrets lately - the PS3 Slim and PSPgo being cases in point."

I'm a bit too cynical to believe that all the Sony leaks have been accidental. It's simply a clever marketing campaign - one that worked *very* well as any 'leaks' got huge coverage in the gaming media.

I don't think anyone would complain if BC was re-introduced, but I do wish people would stop going on about it. The chances of it coming back are lower with every passing day; Sony want people buying new PS3 games, not pre-owned PS2 games.
  • miiiguel #32 2 years ago

"Sony want people buying new PS3 games, not pre-owned PS2 games. "

I don't do "pre-owned"; I don't sell. I just want to be able to play my collected games, and the space for legacy systems is getting limited.
  • IronCladChicken #33 2 years ago

    @brod
I think it was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment.
  • LilithsCurves #34 2 years ago

Of course it would be great to have BC in a PS3 but a hardware solution is at the moment too expensive since Sony wants a 300 dollar/euro price point. Perhaps in the future there will be software emulation, (if 100% software emulation is technically possible) but as long as the PS2 is being sold with making them some money, that is highly unlikely - i think so at least. To compare it all with the wii and xbox360 is not completely fair since original xbox and gamecube were discontinued (to my knowledge). If they were still produced and sold, i am pretty sure there would be no point for wii to be BC or Xbox. Why is the PS2 still produced and the others discontinued their predecessors? My guess is, the PS3 (is)/was in a different price region and therefor Sony wanted to have a PS2 around to compete in the market where people don't want to spend 250+ dollars/euros for a game console. that's my thought on it.
