More LOTRO items to give away

Hauberks back by popular demand.

The 1,000 in-game items we had to give away with our Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria preview on Monday disappeared pretty sharpish. Turns out a Hauberk of the Mithril Guard is the must-have of Middle-earth fashion this autumn.

Faced with overwhelming popular demand from the LOTRO community, Codemasters Online did the decent thing and generated a further 5,000 codes for the item. We quietly added these to the giveaway last night. Sneaky us.

There are still some 3,300-odd Hauberks remaning, so head over to Eurogamers to claim yours now.

Mines of Moria, the first expansion pack for Lord of the Rings Online, is out for PC on November 18th. Watch out for a review soon.

Given in inactivity of the LOTRO group and any threads, I doubt very much that most of the people taking them even have the game. It's a nice thing though, cheers EG :)

There was a lot of moaning on the official forums which is why the extra keys are available

Despite the EG group and guild being dead its still a fairly busy game

Why so negative? On RP-Laurelin there are alot players around.
And believe me, 6000 players will enjoy having this bonus item hauberk.

When a MMO has 250.000 players it is profitable for the developer/publisher to continue the MMO game.
LOTRO has more players then that.

At least I'm 1 of the 'few' who are happy with the nice looking free bonus item Mithril Guard hauberk!

    THANKS EUROGAMER!

I was going to say, I don't understand when these people who say it's "dead" or "empty" play, as every time I log on there's a load of people around.

Maybe people are just used to wandering into Ironforge and encountering 100 people all standing around doing TEH SEXIE NELF DANSE LOL

With regard to the RP server, how tough is it to play there? LOTRO - to me - screams of being an RPer's heaven (with the housing, musical instruments, etc) but I'm a little put-off as a lot of JRRT fans are... how can I say this... "well versed in his works..."

Subtle way of saying "they're mental, and literally believe they're from Middle-Earth". Try questing with some of them though, it's a fantastic experience. Even try heavy RP yourself, just make sure you don't become to "well versed" :)

It's not an empty game at all, it's just a bit like MapleStory - loads play, none talk about it. It's like Fight Club, but with Elves and Hobbits.

"The First Rule of Middle-Earth fight club is we don not talk about Fight Club. The second rule about Fight Club is we do NOT talk about... no, sorry, done that one. The second rule is don't put on any magical rings or we're all proper screwed, man,"

No, I didn't mean it in that sense. I just meant that there are people who play games that immerse themselves so deeply in the lore that they start to let that overcome the actual gaming experience. I've seen it in WoW where a bunch of people spent about 20 minutes discussing some tidbit of WoW Lore and ended up calling for somebody to be banned for not knowing the name of Gronthrax Piddlewang's father or some pish...

My worry is that with LOTR having such a rich background and fanbase, I might run into somebody who speaks Elvish and then gets pissy with me for having a name that means "Spooning monkey bladder" in "their" language...

Ah. That'd be wrong, but I've never seen it myself thankfully. I'm sure they'd must laugh at you if they were that deep into it.
