More Kingdom Hearts in 2007
Nomura confirms 'multiple projects'
Tetsuya Nomura has told Famitsu magazine that gamers should expect announcements on multiple Kingdom Hearts-related products in 2007.
Square Enix hinted at as much at the Jump Festa annual event earlier this month, and now Nomura has ended speculation, promising "big movements in the Kingdom Hearts series".
Of course, the Disney-meets-JRPG franchise is wildly popular, and a guess at a next-generation title doesn't need 'Mystic Meg'-like prediction powers. The only speculation here is whether it will be PlayStation exclusive, just as the previous two console titles were.
Also interesting is whether one of the "multiple products" might include a hand-held option. With Square Enix recently announcing Dragon Quest IX for the DS, and Kingdom Hearts already having appeared on the GBA once, it's hard not to draw parallels.
Here's hoping we're right and it doesn't turn out to be a rubbish film.
Meanwhile you can have an eyeball of what we thought when we reviewed Kingdom Hearts II. It's out now in Europe.

Tetsuya Nomura and people who think Kingdom Hearts story is good.

SE have usually said they'll support whatever platform is dominant, they have no ties to any of the console makers. In Japan the 360 sells worse than the Game Boy Micro though, so that's a bit of a barrier to getting SE support...

i liked kingdom hearts 1 and 2 but 1 wins because by default it thinks changing from attack to magic intuitively is more important than the camera, which in good games should never need to be altered.

Sony is a stakeholder, that is a tie. But one that isn't binding, they can still dev for other formats, but until Sony isn't a stakeholder, don't think we'll see the numbered FF's on other formats.

That's odd, I thought it was better than first one by quite a margin
I hope the series does continue.

These games cost an absolute ton to make due to the huge amount of art assets that go into them. Porting to the other next-gen platform is not a big expenditure in comparison, because the bulk of the code and all the art can be used for both. PS3 has a tiny install base at this point, and at the current rate it's looking like that's going to continue for a while. You can't recoup the money you spend unless you can sell the games, and if there's not enough people to buy the games you made...
Also, if Squenix were to start putting their big franchises onto the 360, it would sell. Japanese are more interested in software than hardware.

Final Fantasy XI is on X360.
