More details on Fallout's The Pitt
AutoAxe, slavery, a potential cure.
Bethesda has revealed more details on Fallout 3's upcoming second downloadable pack, The Pitt, in the pages of this month's Official Xbox Magazine in the UK.
The Pitt - set in Pittsburgh, obviously - consists of an abandoned steel yard (apparently a dungeon, of sorts) and a settlement divided between the slaves in Downtown and their masters in Haven.
One of the significant quests will involve chatting up Raiders rather than fighting them, as you infiltrate their numbers to try and reach the Raider boss, who may have discovered a cure for mutation.
There will also be side quests, unique items (including the "AutoAxe") and - according to a separate interview in Game Informer - three new perks (including "Auto Axpert") and a population of scampering mutant "Trogs".
The Pitt is due out for Xbox 360 and PC in March, following on from January's Operation: Anchorage.
We've previously been told that The Pitt is accessed via an underground railroad and is a separate area to the Capital Wasteland.

It's main problem for me...I'm playing Shenmue at the mo (but the same can be said of ME or KOTOR), but it's characters seem more "alive" to me than wooden FO3 and Oblivion put together which made me care very little in FO3 (and oblivion)....

Oh, PLEASE DO

Why can't they just store them up and then level me up appropriately once the patch is in place?
Game is on shelf until the level cap gets removed. They should feel pleased if I am still interested in buying any DLC by the time they sort that out.

It's exactly the same for me. I managed some 30 hours in before getting bored of being top level for a good deal of time already, talking to bland characters, and exploring the humongous world without interesting plot. Some sidequests were ok I guess, not enough to keep me playing though.
It was the same with Oblivion. It's just that - Bethesda games aren't for everyone, and for sure they are not for me. This Pitt backstory looks interesting, but imo it'll be mighty hard to recreate the hellish atmosphere of the place the Brotherhood dude was talking about.

Yeah, same problem here. Animations in both games are poor, NPC conversations are not convincing at all, facial animation and design is rubbish. But at least Fallout 3 is playable, thanks to the pauze sytem and the heavier focus on shooting stuff. And besides, the relatively poor artistic design skills of Bethesda are less obvious in an ugly setting like a nuclear wasteland as opposed to the fantasy setting of Oblivion.

Exactly.
I'm up to level 20 and haven't finished it yet, ad won't do til the last dlc coes out with the higher exp cap...

Same here. I was very tempted to download one of the mods that let you carry on levelling up past 20, but as I don't know what effect that's gonna have when the official level cap extension arrives, I've decided to just put the game to one side until it gets here.
Whether I'll be in the mood (or the financial position) to buy three content packs all at once at that stage is a different question.
edit: And bdgr too. Looks like it's not an uncommmon sentiment.

It was announced a couple of weeks ago that the next 2 DLC packs will be pushed back to March and April. Annoying I know!
Still love the game, 100 hours over two characters and its great.
