More Blood Bowl from Cyanide News

PSP DS Xbox 360
News by Robert Purchese

19 November, 2007

French developer Cyanide has said it will be making additional Xbox 360, PSP and DS versions of Blood Bowl for release next year.

The Games Workshop sports game was previously only being created for PC, but due to a very successful year it can now apparently afford to branch out.

Cyanide was granted the go-ahead to use the licence by the lead figure giant last year, even though it had been refused once before while creating copycat title Chaos League, which failed to ignite critical fuses.

Blood Bowl is a turn-based American Football game where fantasy races like Orcs and Elves go at it using all sorts of illegal moves and abilities. Cyanide will let you play it in either real time so you get a faster paced experience, or turn-based for something a little more authentic.

Don't knock Chaos League. It tried a lot of new stuff and was probably some funding away from being great

Good to see Bloodbowl getting a new lease of life, brings me back to many late night tournaments and my weak as hell, but invincible high elf catcher who killed off some of my mates star players with triple skulls even after rerolls :)

Anyone remember the old PC version of BloodBowl? It was turn-based all the way and had early commentary on it. I used to run it on my old 486. Ah, the good old days.

The choice between real-time or turn-based modes is a little worrying. How can that possibly equal the same game? It's a turn based game guys, so make a turn based game!

Squeeeee!

Yay for turn-based shenanigans!

One for the fact fans: Kieron Gillen localised the English dialogue for the original Chaos League game.

I'll be getting this, can't wait....

Still have the boardgame at home, but too much effort to actually set up the players with all their traits etc, perfect for a computer version!

My god, i think i'd actually prefer it on the 360, what is the world coming to? I'm a PC gamer through and through, but i'd like to play it on my 37in flat screen...

Weird...

The turn-based mode is for the purists (like me) who want it as a strategy game. The real time mode is for the new kids on the block who want to smash people's skulls in. If it was just turn based i doubt it would get funded, so i'm happy they'll add an alternate version that i'll never play, so the turn based mode sees the light of day.

Ah, I still remember the last Blood Bowl final my buddies and I put together - the Skaven Scramblers vs. The Dwarf Giants, in which the rats barely managed to salvage a 3-2 defeat with the deaths of 3 players, against an almost invincible dwarf formation that consisted of lining up on the pitch like in British Bulldog and being hard as nails.

So... long... ago....

/wavy screen effect as ponder the dim and distant past.

Provided this has a decent single player mode, I'll definitely be buying it.

As I've just been beaten on an eBay auction for 2nd edition Blood Bowl, I'm now doubly happy.

Although it may make the High Elf team I've just bought a bit useless :/

I can't find much about the PC version mentioned in the article. Any ideas on a release date etc? I can only find solid info about the afformentioned 486 version!

They don't use lead anymore. ;)

It was only a tenner - I already know two people with it so I'm not that bothered, but if you want a tenner for a copy of 2nd Edition then just message me on here :)
