New adhocParty service on Tuesday.

This Tuesday, European Monster Hunter Freedom Unite players will finally be able to adventure together online.

No more will you need to rely on three other friends being in the same place at the same time to group and fight the biggest monsters with.

Capcom's adhocParty service simply allows you to play as if on Xbox Live or PlayStation Network, more orless. This has been a sorely missed feature for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in the UK, where people generally keep to themselves rather than congregate for a PSP gaming sessions.

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is effectively an MMO for PSP. There's a large single-player component that involves killing progressively bigger monsters for better equipment, but the true core of the game lies in multiplayer.

Eurogamer's Dan Pearson spent an eternity playing the game earlier this year in order to deliver his detailed analysis.

This is great news. Even just playing solo this has been one of the best games of the year for me, and I look forward to finally getting some multiplayer GH quests in.

You can use the US ad-hoc party application for GT PSP also. I've done so a bunch of times - has really helped my car collection (thousands of them now) and have had some great online racing also, with voice chat and everything, cool stuff. I think the ad-hoc party mode in GT PSP is pretty excellent with the bonus multipliers, the automatic selection of better and worse cars depending on how often you won, etc.

So all we need basically is get that application in the EU store now - but if you can, get the US version in the meantime.

Adhoc Party is pretty good news. It'll also be good for Phantasy Star Portable, as even though I know people who have that in real life I can never get them to play with me. I still need to work on the owning a PS3 part, but this means I'm slightly more inclined to now.

I know adhoc party requires the PS3, but do you have to have direct access to the PS3 at the time? Or will it work like remote play where you can access it over the internet?

@callum9999 - you have to connect to the PS3 wireless itself. The PS3 receives that and then sends it out your wired connection to your router.

That's how I understand it to work.

It's strange that they've released EU & US versions, considering it's only MH players who really use Ad Hoc, who've predominantly stayed on the JP version. Think I've seen around 200-300 users on the US version at peak-time, all congregated on the one world, with the other 7 empty and void. EU release will be similarly empty I'm sure.

And considering GT was released AFTER Ad Hoc, why is it a horrendous effort to set up a game ? The lobby system is borked beyond belief......
