Monster Hunter PSP bundle detailed News

PSP News by Robert Purchese

9 June, 2009

Capcom has detailed the contents of the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite PSP bundle that Sony's David Reeves told us about in April.

It includes the new Mystic Silver PSP-3000, a Monster Hunter-branded PSP carry-pouch, screen wipe and a branded piece of skin or something that fits right over the PSP. And the game.

This all launches at the same time as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, on 26th June.

Sony and Capcom have gone to considerable lengths to impose Monster Hunter on Europe and the US, and kick-start the sort of phenomenal success the game enjoys in Japan. Key to the game's charms is an ad hoc wireless mode where four people can cooperatively kill big monsters for big loot. Dan just died again.

So far we've been offered a Monster Hunter Freedom Unite demo that supports multiplayer, and Capcom has provided an online encyclopaedia to help the less discerning monster hunter stand a chance.

Whether its teeth will sink in this time, unlike predecessors Monster Hunter Freedom and Monster Hunter Freedom 2, we'll have to wait and see.

I still cannot understand why Capcom choose to make Monster Hunter on consoles with sub-par online capability. It would be brilliant on the 360 or PS3 thanks to voice chat especially.

because the game is a totally social experience and wouldn't be anywhere near as fun online as it is with 3 friends next to you. it's a matter of principle.

first get some friends, then check it out, then you will agree with me.

Trouble is you need four PSPs, and considering the console isn't that great and isn't as ubiquitous as the DS, that's pretty tricky.

Playing the original on the PS2's online network was a nightmare, but I could at least see the potential for true brilliance. Capcom just haven't unlocked it yet.

It's working pretty damn well via Ad-Hoc party at the mo, with a very helpful crowd of players.

If only I didn't have 2 PSPs already, I'd love to blatantly waste some cash on this bundle.

I'm really tempted to get another PSP on the cheap so I can use one for homebrew and one for normal games. I'd rather be using the latest official firmware but I love having a portable Mega Drive :S

@evilfoxhound Not sure if you've ever played one before but if not there's a demo up on the PSN store, also Capcom have an offer where you can have a demo delivered, the link is in the MH Freedom Unite thread in the PSP forum.
