E3: Molyneux reveal during MS conf?

Lionhead promises "a big presentation".

Lionhead has promised "a big presentation" during the Microsoft E3 conference, which runs on Monday, 1st June from 6.30pm UK time (BST). And we'll be reporting live from the event, remember.

"Lionhead is off to LA for this year's E3 and will give a big presentation at the Microsoft press conference on Monday! Watch this space," reads the company's Twitter.

This, we presume, will be the next project Peter Molyneux has been trailing. After all, he told us he had something ready to show when we talked to him at GDC, but that the revelation date was out of his hands.

"Two things need to happen before we can tell the world," he told us. "Microsoft has to see the sense in what we're doing, and we've got to absolutely have something to show you. This is the rule now, the rule I've set myself - I will absolutely not talk about anything, any concepts or ideas, until I've got something tangible to show.

"We're almost there on the tangible thing, and we've been showing it round internally. It's probably the best reaction I've ever seen to anything I've done.

"I would show you now if it was up to me. Right this second, on that TV there," he added.

Peter went on to describe the project as "insanely simple" and is puzzled why he took so long to conjure the idea. The Lionhead boss has also called the game "ridiculously ambitious" and likened its creation to a "scientific achievement".

A lot to live up to, but Molyneux promised that Fable II would cement his reputation which, thankfully, it did - and with flying colours.

He may simply be barking mad. Oh hound could we say that? We'd better paws and reconsider. Phew, we're Rover the worst of it now. [Cut it out or I'll rrrruff you up. - Ed]

I wish that cunt would reveal that's he going to STFU and stop being so bloody pretentious. Fucker really gets on my nerves.

/looks at Black and white box.
// refuses to be sucked in again.

Yadayadayada, this whole "hate" thing is childish and petty. Achieve similar accomplishments and you might have something to moan about but until you do, it sounds like a havenot complaining about the few missteps somebody made on the path of making things happen.
  • kinky_mong #6 3 years ago

I'd like him to announce a game that gets praise from all the reviews and actually deserves it. Not another dull RPG with sludgy controls and countless irritating bugs that spoil the meagre amount of fun the game actually provides.
  • RedSparrows #7 3 years ago

I like people who use the word pretentious incorrectly, the irony is delicious.

I wonder what Rare are up to as well...
  • JahB #8 3 years ago

what's with all the hating? i'm no fan of molyneux as a person, but he makes a class games. i for one hope he's gonna reveal fable 3
  • ronuds #9 3 years ago

PM hate at this point is so cliche it's not even worth mentioning.

I look forward to pretty much anything he does and says. Doesn't mean I'll necessarily like it, but I know it'll be different and interesting! Woo hoo, PM!!
  • Instinct #10 3 years ago

Can't really fault the man for being passionate about what he does.
  • Spanky #11 3 years ago

If he was a semi attractive female you wouldn't be complaining, you'd be sucking up the guff like you did with thon nerd-totty jade raymond.
  • dacicus #12 3 years ago

The new groundbreaking, uberinflated news from Lionehead. Or Peter Molyneux hyping, despite the fact that everything he shelled out lately was nothing else than a pale copy of some really original games that he did in his early days ( Populous and Dungeon Keeper )
  • Markusdragon #13 3 years ago

If Molyneux didn't exist, P.G. Wodehouse would have had to invent him.
  • Tetragammatron #14 3 years ago

What is this recent obsession with using "reveal" as a noun? It seems to be the new SKU.

Molyneux reveal? I are hope so!
  • AphoticCosmos #15 3 years ago

    @ Markusdragon

Lol, thanks for a chuckle :p

    Fable 3? B&W3?

    Meh don't really care.
  • Pirotic #16 3 years ago

It's so easy to spot everyone in the comments who clearly never played a Bullfrog game.

If you had, you'd be moaning that he hasn't had his knighthood yet instead. The guys a legend imo.
  • makeamazing #17 3 years ago

Going to be interesting to see what it is, as PM says himself its a very simple concept, so either its a amazing game with a simple concept or a simple (not full priced) game that is simple... if you see what i mean :D. If its a full priced game, doesnt sound like it will be released any time soon though.
  • Quickstick4 #18 3 years ago

I think its the fact hes very confident in his ability to head the production of games, that do turn out well, that M$ have let lionhead (well it appeard this way anyways) get on with what they want to do. On the other hand we have Rareware, who seem to have had a long period of adjusting to working under M$, it was only after Viva Pinata they seem to have hit there stride again and M$ have let them do there whole "Hidding in the bushes and suddenly producing a game" again. Did Rare have a extrovertly confident person heading them? No they had two brothers who were used to dealing with nintendo who are Japanese and have the culture of respect engrained into them. Not the American way of selling your self, or even British way of being confident (but not arrogant!)
  • riz23 #19 3 years ago

Following on the canine theme, I have to say this could well be the dogs bollocks and no doubt we will all lap it up. God Bless Molyneux and all who game through him. Rule Brittania etc.
  • dacicus #20 3 years ago

Pirotic, thing is, the man it's still caught in the Bullfrog era. Black and White series? Populous combined with Tamagotchi... Movies? Interesting concept, but ended up in being The Sims like. Instead of the player focusing on the main attraction: making movies, the player ends up in treating the moods of its actors. Fable, overly simplified.
The only good games made by Molyneux are Populous and Dungeon Keeper. The rest is just him hyping some new products, promising a lot and delivering little. From B&W, the guy is always promising us extrememly interesting concepts and when the final product comes out, you see that those were just empty promises.
  • kinky_mong #21 3 years ago

Can I just state that I have nothing against Molyneux himself, and actually like the fact he's very enthusiastic about what he does, plus I always think he comes across as a very likeable person in interviews. However I found Fable 2 incredibly disappointing and completely undeserving of all the 10 out of 10 reviews it received, hence why I make bitter statements about Lionhead games.

    k thnx bai!
  • Jonny5Alive7 #22 3 years ago

I'm taking a punt on it having something to do with the Motion Sensor stuff MS are revealing. A virtual dog and stick game maybe!

Oh great... maybe he's going to announce new revolutionary DLC for Fable 2 which lets you keeps hamsters, breed them and you can choose to clean their cages or not... which you know... affects your good/evil status.

I'm bored of Lionhead games. For the love of God, Molyneux please make something simple, pretty and brainless so I don't have to read about your mindblowing announcements on all the games pages only to discover it's JUST A FUCKING DOG. IT'S A DOG OK? I HAVE ONE. IT'S BETTER THAN YOUR FABLE DOG AND NO I AM NOT UPSET YOURS DIED IN FABLE 2.

Oh look... his games do evoke emotions! Wow.

P.S. Dean... want to get KTFO sometime soon!? I'm still waiting for that UFC match!

Will the hating ever get old? Don't you people tire of hearing yourselves say the same things over and over? "Over promise, under deliver. It's just a dog. Blah, blah, I'm so retarded I don't realize that maybe I'm in the minority when it comes to despising him, but I'll flap my big mouth about it anyway."

You're all as unoriginal as you claim PM to be. In which case, we should all start hating you. Let's all instead latch on to the EA's of the world who churn out the same useless crap over and over again. We need guys like PM and Kojima. It's good for the industry when there are people who, I don't know, want to innovate. If you don't like it, quite frankly nobody gives a shit. At least show some respect for someone who's been doing this a lot longer than you've been running your idiotic mouths about it.
  • the_mtfr #25 3 years ago

He talks like he's Britney Spears.

(I didn't want to use any offending words directly at him)
  • #26 3 years ago

RedSparrows... pretentious = putting forth a claim, something old Peter is superb at.

Obviously you love all his games and eagerly await wanking off to to his every interview.

    Ronuds...

Ill tire of hating on Peter when Peter finally realises his games aren't all that and a bag of chips and he will stop hyping his crap and maybe just for once deliver something worth playing.

A reboot of the Syndicate franchise?
  • Negotiator #28 3 years ago

The great Peter, what a man, what a mighty good man, can't wait for MS E3 Press Conference its going to be something very special, oh yes.
  • mandella #29 3 years ago

Seriously, Molyneux is becoming more and more pathetic with every next game he is making." Insanely simple - ridiculously ambitious AND a scientific achievement"? Seems like Mr.Peter Molyneux just invented something that could only compare with the invention of a wheel... FFS, how full of shit this guy is. Astonishing.
  • kangarootoo #30 3 years ago

This whole f*cking thread is a cliche. So I guess it suits the article perfectly.
  • Xerx3s #31 3 years ago

"I wonder what Rare are up to as well... "

PDhd for XBLa. MAKE IT SO!

"It's so easy to spot everyone in the comments who clearly never played a Bullfrog game.

If you had, you'd be moaning that he hasn't had his knighthood yet instead. The guys a legend imo. "

    Hear hear.

Still, reading all the hate comments is quite amusing. Makes one wonder what that vocal minority has done in life that puts them in a position to make such judgements.
  • Stop-gap #32 3 years ago

A new Syndicate game, please God, please. Even if this isn't it, that would be best.

You don't have to be a game developer to see that Molyneux has a bad habbit of talking too much about things that are way too early in development. Leading to promisses that can't be kept since the game simply isn't far enough along yet.
That generates negative publicity. Not very surprising.
He often admits this himself, that he shoulden't talk about the early stuff yet but he doesn't ever seem to be able to do that.

    expecting a good game
  • thenastypasty #35 3 years ago

I don't know what the problem is with PM is,I think the man is quite entertaining.
  • bibalasvegas #36 3 years ago

Mlolyneux has made good games but he really really pisses me off. Why does he have to hype in every interview?!!! Let your games do the talking and stop making outrageous claims all the time.
  • Grogmonkey #37 3 years ago

    @dacicus

    Bluhurgagh?!

Only good games were Dungeon Keeper and Populous?!

Personally I think the Fable series is great, but even ignoring that there's still Syndicate, Magic Carpet and Theme Park...

    Powermonger was pretty great, too.
  • Lemming81 #38 3 years ago

Fable 3 - you can have your own cat.

It'd be nice if he actually went back and made B&W an actual game before doing anything else, tbh.

  • dacicus #39 3 years ago

@Grogmonkey, you've forgot Gene Wars and Hi-octane. Things is, his best games were in the Bullfrog era.
Sorry, but afterwards he started his overhyping trend and ended up delivering too little . I've had high expectations from B&W, The Movies and Fable, but in the end everything was just something generic and plain. A part of me still hopes that he will manage someday to deliver as he promises, but until now he just didn't managed to do that.
  • CapnCloudchaser #40 3 years ago

According to the Destructoid Psychic predictions for E3, Microsoft will be making a game that no one has seen before and that will revolutionise the industry.. Maybe THIS is it? :p

  • immateriaux #41 3 years ago

    Yawn.

As Churchill once said of Molyneaux, ""Never in the field of human endeavour was so little delivered by one man, so often". Or something like that.
  • Chalee #42 3 years ago

My dog didn';t die in fable too.. At least not permanently :)
  • onyx_elite #43 3 years ago

I've been a fan of Peter Molyneux for a long time, since he made games that were quietly brilliant. Ever since he got a little bit too much praise after making Black & White he has become steadily more ridiculous. I'd rather have a game that was steadily backed up by sneak-peeks of impressive features or exciting videos than 1 man continuously harping on about utter nonsense.

Quite frankly it's embarrassing to watch. Lionhead are a company I once aspired to work for but under leadership like that, expect only tyranny or indoctrination. I've met Lionhead's chief animator. He was a bloody wreck and just spurted buzzwords and nonsense.

Lionhead make good, solid games not amazing ones. There's nothing groundbreaking or world changing about this level of personal choice in games now.

And no-one gives a fuck about the dog.

    (edit for spelling)

If PM could actually deliver on his promises then the man would be a guru to all gamers out there. As it is, he partially delivers which results in some people hating him for under-delivering and others loving him for over-delivering compared to other games producers. He should talk less and deliver more surprises, but the man just can't help himself, he is like an over-enthusiastic child - which for gamers is probably a good thing.
  • Rubarack #45 3 years ago

PM has some really great ideas, but it boggles the mind why he's in charge of PR, because he seems to have no head for it whatsoever.
