Mirror's Edge DLC adds Time Trial maps

Arrives with PC version in January.

DICE has prepared the first batch of downloadable content for Mirror's Edge, in the shape of some stylised and very pretty Time Trial maps.

EA also sends word that the PC version of Mirror's Edge will release here on 16th January 2009.

The nine Time Trial maps, due to arrive in late January, will cost 800 Microsoft Points from Xbox Live (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60), or USD 10 (GBP 7) from the PlayStation Store. The UK price is likely to be cheaper than that, but there's no specific word yet.

Also, PlayStation 3 owners will be treated to an extra, exclusive map.

The new levels, which can be seen in action over on Eurogamer TV, present floating clusters of brightly coloured shapes, devoid of any texture. It's as if DICE has stripped away the pretence of city and story and focused on what the free-running first-person action game does best.

Pink, blue and red blotches mix with white to produce giant, eye-catching playgrounds Faith needs to pick her path through and race across in order to notch up the best time.

Head over to our Mirror's Edge review to see what we made of the game itself.

looks interesting, but reeks of something that should have been in the game in the first place, or at least cheaper

Now that looks like fun. Love the freerunning parts of the game, shame they had to spoil it with some really frustraiting sections against the police!!!

"The UK price is likely to be cheaper than that"

I rather hope so. On the face of it, they seem a bit overpriced.

Bah! I was hoping for another chapter set in the lush green countryside of England. Wall running up the side of listed buildings and delivering packages for the Womens Institute, whilst avoiding Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby and his oppressive police constabulary.

They could call it Mirror's Hedge.

Hmmm... no doubt this DLC will be in the PC game at launch or shortly afterwards.

Sorry, why should we buy these games on PS3 or 360 again? Apart from the delay (artificial or otherwise)?

"Sorry, why should we buy these games on PS3 or 360 again? Apart from the delay (artificial or otherwise)?"

What a silly question. You obviously shouldn't if you prefer the PC as a gaming platform :).

Anyway, back on topic - just watched the DLC trailer and I really like the look of it. I haven't actually gotten through Mirror's Edge yet, and given how much I was swearing and yelling when I decided to put the story mode on hold for a while, I may never. The time trials are fun though - even if I'm never going to be able to manage remotely impressive times - and the abstract location of the DLC maps actually looks pretty cool.

It's worth finishing, but you might want to shoot everyone to get through it first time if you're doing too much swearing.

I played it without shooting anyone on my first go and I almost destroyed the entire fucking universe in bitter, filthy frustration at this piss-fucking snipers. Aaaaaaaghh!!!!

Shooting the bad guys doesn't actually make the game better, it just switches off the fun-removal devices and makes it less frustrating.

Is it just me or are time trial maps the weakest type of DLC? This is the kind of thing that should come on the disc. DLC should be entirely new content that continues the story or develops a new plot element. This feels cheap when it surely isn't.

oh christ, please don't make me put up with any more of the Mirror's Edge story...
    I just want to play!
