Milo & Kate tech isn't in Kinectimals

The Milo & Kate merry-go-round continued this afternoon after it emerged that the tech used to create the Lionhead-developed Kinect game isn't being used to create Kinectimals as well.

Quotes attributed to VP of Microsoft Game Studios Phil Spencer in Official Xbox Magazine suggested Kinectimals, which is being developed by UK studio Frontier, incorporates Milo & Kate's clever relationship tech in some way.

Today, Frontier chairman David Braben got in touch with OXM to let the magazine know Spencer was incorrect.

"I'd like to address some stories that are currently circulating, that Kinectimals from Frontier is somehow related to Milo & Kate from Lionhead," the Elite creator said.

"Kinectimals has been in development since before we saw Milo. It is built using Frontier's own technology shared with other Frontier games in development, and ideas evolved from earlier games like Dog's Life. There has not been any involvement in the technology or design by Lionhead. Milo & Kate is a completely separate (and intriguing) development from Lionhead."

Milo & Kate has had a storied week. At the weekend Xbox PR man Aaron Greenberg was quoted on Australian telly saying Peter Molyneux's baby was nothing more than a "tech demo" for motion-sensing add-on Kinect.

He then retracted his comments. But that didn't stop Molyneux having his say.

"Poor Aaron Greenberg," he said, "he's on the PR team, he hasn't seen it since last year, so he came up with this stock answer that Milo is alive and well and living in Guildford but it's still a tech demo."

Whatever next?

    Stop complaining that certain news stories aren't technically 'news'.

    I watched the 'real' news on the BBC once and there was an actual story about how someone's cat ran away and then came back ages later after trudging all the way up and down the country. I wouldn't call that news but it was featured none-the-less.

    If there's nothing to report, you've got to keep your viewers happy one way or another.

    I want Elite using Kinect. Surely some sort of space sim would work really well. You'll not be stuck with current vehicle control conventions (like Forza)... I'm wetting my pants at the thought of it. you could have some cool scanning and selecting of objects and interesting flight controls, or voice command. Even some rudimentary AI for the ship.

    Braben isn't so much saying what Phil Spencer said is wrong, as saying what OXM (incorrectly) interpreted what Phil Spencer said, is wrong. This may well be a merry-go-round, but it's a merry-go-round the associated press are creating for themselves.

    Dont know if you noticed but this is a gaming website for gamers.... i didnt know there was some kind of certification or qualification that i had to have to post about something. I've owned an Xbox, Wii and got a PC and Mac, so i think i play enough to qualify to at least post on these forums...even if i dont meet those high standards that you think people need to post on a "open community" site. Well done you.

    Whats more funny is people saying how Milo and Kate was the second coming even though anyone with any common sense knew it was all a big PR stunt ;)

    What happened to The Outsider. I had a ex-neighbour who went to work on The Outsider over a year ago and was never heard from again...Maybe there is a black hole surrounding it!

    You sound like you need to 'come out' and actually admit to wanting Kinect. Let's assume Milo and Kate is real, then it really could be something special. Especially considering you see it as a PR stunt. ;)

    @miiiguel - unfortunately alot of news items recently have been for this product, so what else is there to post about :D... but i am a gamer and i am interested in tech... that should be enough to allow me to post on something i have thoughts and questions about (I openly admit that i dont like what MS have done with Kinect).

    I don't like what I read, so i comment on what i have read... i think that is plausible and acceptable. I think if you read most of my posts they have been well balanced and raise serious questions (yes some are taking the mickey out of companies, but i've done that for all three companies). They are certainly not meant as flame bait and I am sorry that on the whole all i am trying to do is have a serious discussion about something that I think is a poor product (that some people are going to be suckered into). That is my opinion (and if you read most posts on most of these things (not just mine) that is also the general consensus... if people don't like that then sorry.

    So not only am I still going to get the opportunity to draw a picture of a cock to scan into the 360 for Milo to hold up and show me smiling innocently, I'm also going to be able to skip and play dead with a pretend tiger cub.
