Midway's not dead yet, says Zucker News

PC PlayStation 2 Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii MMO
News by Robert Purchese

25 March, 2008

Former Midway boss David Zucker believes the troubled publisher has nothing to fear thanks to its considerable investment in next-gen console technology.

Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz, he said as long as Midway makes relevant games then it will avoid the doomsday many are predicting.

"It's all about making great games," said Zucker. "We've been very focused on building up our technology and positioning ourselves to grow our revenues as we go through this console cycle.

"As long as we make relevant games, we feel that we can continue to grow our business. Our strategy is to grow the size and scale so that we can thrive in the next-generation environment."

Midway reported losses of USD 97.4 million for 2007, despite releases of Stranglehold, Unreal Tournament 3 and Blacksite.

This year we can expect a new Mortal Kombat game as well as fresh IP from The Wheelman and This is Vegas.

Zucker would not discuss the possibility of a merger or acquisition. He was replaced by an interim CEO last week.

Head over to GamesIndustry.biz for his final Midway words.

As long as Midway invest approx. 5 cent in the localization of their games, they'll continue to sell fuck all outside of the US. By the sound of it, the German dubbing of "Gauntlet Legends" was done by some 100 year old Japanese bloke with a dictionary and frequent electric shocks to the nuts. That sort of approach is not exactly mass market.

Great another boring 3D Mortal Kombat game. I'll stick with my 2D MK 1,2,3 & trilogy. They were good games then :)
