Midway Gamers Day asset roundup
What it had up its sleeve.
Midway held its annual Gamers Day in Las Vegas last week, so we flew out to see what it has on offer for the year ahead.
We'll be bringing you our opinions of its upcoming catalogue over the next few days, but until then, here are some snippets from our man on the ground, Kristan Reed - as well as directions to the freshly released assets for each game.
Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe
Midway was tight-lipped about this one and showed nothing more than a still of Sub Zero facing up against Batman at the event. MK vs. DCU is being made for PS3 and Xbox 360 and will be out this autumn. It has Freefall Kombat, Klose Kombat, and multi-tiered environments to mix things up.
"The DC Universe characters are some of the most popular and enduring characters in the world. By combining them with the Mortal Kombat mythology, all new gameplay modes and features, plus a completely unique storyline crafted by top comic writers, players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub Zero?" said Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon.
The Wheelman
Driv3r meets Stuntman; mission-based driving with Vin Diesel behind the wheel. Due out on Xbox 360 and PS3 this autumn.
Vin Diesel has apparently been very hands-on with the game and some of the more over-the-top stunt driving you can pull-off, because he does these things in real-life. Expect fast and destructive car chases as well as some unproven on-foot shooting. Pop over to our first impressions of The Wheelman for much more detail.
TNA Impact
"A serious challenger to WWE," said Reed, positively pumped. "Several burly, sweaty wrestlers enter the venue via a dry ice machine. Much whooping ensues - the game positively reeks of testosterone."
TNA Impact will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and Wii this September. It has Kurt Angle in it, who is big and bald. So, we sent Ellie along to interview him. Who would win in a fight? "I would say me," said Angle, "but I'd say it would be a good fight."
This is Vegas
Live a Vegas lifestyle where you gamble, squirt giggling bimbos with water, punch people, go to bachelor parties, get drunk, and tell wild stories - all in the name of making Club Aqua the hottest destination around. Kristan probably did all that.
This Grand Theft Auto-alike for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 will be available this autumn.
Unreal Tournament 3 (Xbox 360)
Essential online shooting from Epic Games. We recommended it on PC, and even more so on PS3, which leaves little anticipation about our thoughts of the Xbox 360 version.
Inside this offering are five fresh maps, two extra characters, and split-screen play from the off. It's due out this summer.
Also talked about but not shown at the event were fantasy basketball game NBA Ballers: The Chosen One for PS3 and 360 (out this Friday); American Football game Blitz: The League 2; and casual audience-friendly games Touchmaster 2 and Game Party 2.

i ask that question every week.
i've also always wanted to know what would happen if there was a mortal kombat game with the blood and guts removed in order to protect the image of a bunch of lame licensed characters.
no, wait. i haven't, ever.
