Midway doing Mortal Kombat PS2 bundle

Three games for under the price of one.

Midway is bundling three old Mortal Kombat PS2 games into one affordable box.

The Mortal Kombat Kollection, containing Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, will cost USD 30 (GBP 15).

Midway is yet to date the bundle for the US, and we're waiting to hear back about European plans. We're told the collection should arrive before new game Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe this Christmas, though.

The quality of the trio declines in chronological order: Deception came first in 2004 and got 8/10, Shaolin Monks followed a year later and received 7/10, and finally Armageddon appeared in 2006 and walked away with 5/10.

Shame my PS2 is dying, if my PS3 was BC I may have picked this up if it's released here (never played armageddon or shaolin monks).

mortal kombat, the skidmark of the fighting game genre.

wasn't Rise Of The Robots the skidmark of the fighting genre?
  • Santino #4 4 years ago

i dont think it was popular enough to lay claim to the title of skidmark. in terms of quality though i'm sure they are pretty comparable. (sorry i just dislike mortal kombat with a passion, i truly think it always has been a terrible franchise since the very beginning)

With the hype around RotR it could easily be called the skidmark. You should also take Battle Arena: Toshinden into consideration for the title though.

Hmm, I dunno the 2D ones were awesome but I do think no one would deny they went downhill from 4 onwards. I liked deception a lot though, definitely played a lot worse beat 'em ups over the years :)

    @ siro

WHAT!! OK the rest of the series was poo but the first Toshinden was brilliant....until Tekken came along.

Agree with the RotR comment, i still remember all the hype surrounding it on release and then reading all the bad reviews and still shelling out the money for it cos I refused to believe it would be that bad xD, to be young again. :D

The 2D ones were shit too. Weren't the charcters all the same bar 3 or so special moves?

Some of the horrible digitised sprites wore different coloured jumpsuits, too.

2D Mortal Kombat just brings back the nightmares of Batman Forever on the SNES/MD..........Holy bad game Batman!

Watch them scores decline, cant wait to see MK vs DC, I reckon a 3/10.

I love MK too, it's just that they've gotten worse and worse over the past years, from a very respectable franchise, to a game that IMO will be a massive success in sales, but leave us MK fans wondering why we liked Kombat in the first place.

Shaolin Monks is actually a pretty decent brawler, and a good fit with the MK universe, despite being made by a different developer. Deception will have aged horribly, though, as it wasn't a great fighting game when it came out, and I've never even played Armageddon, despite being illogically partial to Mortal Kombat, so that should tell you something.

MK2 was the best in my opinion up there with Killer Instinct only other fighting game I've ever properly bonded with well maybe Soul Blade

Nice, I hope it does make it out over here, seeing as MK Armageddon never had an EU release on the X-Box.

Well... where's the PS2 BC, Sony?

Just release these on XBL as cut price Xbox originals and you'll do well worldwide off of them.

i remember reading an interview when MK1 came out saying the buddha in the background of one of the levels was an old garden ornament. talk about benchmarking the whole series...there is a bit of a guilty pleasure in the MK games though. You cant discredit they've got a place in the history of fighters...

    @Ryze

Hah! At least I managed not to use this article as an excuse to whine about the PS3 and plug the X360.
