MGS4 shipments hit 3 million mark News

PlayStation 3 News by Ellie Gibson

27 June, 2008

The total number of Metal Gear Solid 4 discs shipped now stands at 3 million, according to IGN.

That'll include a million sold in Europe, plus half a million shifted in Japan. There's no official figure for the US yet but it's more than 12, we'd wager.

The 3 million figure was revealed at a Sony investor briefing in Tokyo yesterday. Apparently Kaz Hirai told attendees Metal Gear Solid 4 has helped shift more PS3 consoles. Wonder if Oli's review also helped?

sales numbers of the game have dropped from 500k during first week to 50k in the second week in Japan by the way according to Media Create Numbers. To me that's not a cause for celebration.

MGS4 has helped shift more PS3....ok technically in Japan it did but, come on now at this stage in the game it sounds like Microsoft and Sony are saying these great sales thinks to convince themselves they aren't under selling by a huge margin.

MGS 3 sold less than 4 million. It amuses me when I see people who say it'll sell 7 million.

Oh, and lol @ Ellie. Though it doesn't piss off fanboys here as much as it would at GameTrailers. There any prodding of MGS 4 really gets the hornet nest going.

This game is going to sell alot more than that i think. Okay its not getting the stupid amount of advertising that say Halo3 did where MS shoved it down every xbox fanboys throat but I def think this game over a period is going to really sell well.

Im only saying this cos Ive never played or seen a game that looks like this or plays like this. Im a converted fan for def.

"MGS 3 sold less than 4 million. It amuses me when I see people who say it'll sell 7 million."

A very valid point, one which many MGS fanboys choose to ignore. But seeing as 4 is a direct sequel I wouldn't be surprised if it does reach the numbers of 1 and 2 (MGS - 6 million, MGS2 7 million according to Wikipedia)

I agree about Eliie, she has been trying to stir 'em up with every MGS article :)

@ farticusmaximus

Yeah I laughed at that comment to, I always find the Halo hate funny! Shame as it is a brilliant game. If only they can get over their insecurities of liking something not Sony.......

True but the charts are funny things. How many platforms is MGS4 on and how many is Indy on.........

Can't agree, obviously you do not play online if you think 1 was better. Halo3 was fantastic fun in MP and personally I loved SP just as much as 1 and 2.

"IS THER ANY CHANCE WE WILL SEE MGS4 ON XBOX360 NEXT YEAR"

God I hope not. I dont want devs to think it's acceptable to produce an 'action' game that consists of as much tedious ego-stroking innane cutscene as it does so-called 'gameplay'.

When QTE's reared their ugly head devs caught on to the fact that they could get away with producing a shite semi-interactive portion of the game. They will use any excuse to be lazy and avoid proper gameplay.

Your opinion, most definitely NOT the opinion of the game-buying public.

MGS4 may well be a good game, for those who like to watch movies. Fair play to em I say, I'd just rather not have the Sony ethos creeping into 360 games. All show and no gameplay doesnt cut it for me I'm afraid. If I want to be bored for 90 minutes I'll go watch a documentary about dust or something.

Also, you should think about your own rabid fanboyism. You are as vocal and acidic as any on this forum. Stones and glasshouses mate, stones and glasshouses.

You dont like what you hear then go ahead and use the ignore button. That's what it's there for.

Hello headbog/swam/etc, etc. (your account was created less than an hour ago)

As much as you want to draw me into a personal slanging match with you it isnt going to happen. Goodbye, ignored.

@Arbiter

There are games I like on the PS3. Motorstorm, Pixeljunk racers, Pain, Locoroco, The funky eyetoy tower game. The core of these games is gameplay, funnily enough.

There are games I do not like on the PS3. Heavenly sword, MGS (the whole series in fact), GT5p (although I loved the rest of the GT series), uncharted. I don't like them because they have sacrificed the core gameplay for flashy presentation and the end result is extremely unsatisfying to me.

There is a bloating happening in the games industry which is robbing us of gameplay and instead giving us badly acted, poorly scripted semi-interactive movies, or games that look great in screenshots but play like ass in reality. It's not just about platform, but Sony is most defiinitely the prime culprit in this area.

This is the primary reason I have abandoned Sony this generation and instead chosen MS and Nintendo as my platforms as they remember what gaming is about.

I suggest you climb down from that moral high horse you are on Arbiter, as your overinflated opinion of yourself simply makes you sound arrogant and vain.

I rarely feel the need to comment on these forums, I just enjoy reading the usually adept and intelligent comments on PS3 and 360 games (p.s I own both systems) but I have to interject -

Farticus - you are indeed an utter knobend.
