MGS not being ported to PS2 after all News

You'd have thought that Konami would have ported over the GameCube version of Metal Gear Solid just so the games have a consistent look rather than including the rather dated original.

Oh well, I wouldn't have played it any way. I already went through it again in the enhanced Windows version. Still a shame though.

See if Sony didn't drop the ball and get rid of B/C they could of released a special edition boxset of all the games or something, I'd buy that!

So, if it's not ported, will it require PS1 memcard? That could be a hassle for those who don't play PS1 games on PS2.

It sure will, just like any PSX game. I went to the trouble of buying an official one off eBay years ago and it is STILL in the blister pack. Thought I'd replay stuff but always had too many more recent games to play!

Like someone else said in another thread, Nintendo (and Silicon Knights) were heavily involved in that port. Would probably be difficult legally.

I have been playing the PC version of MGS1 recently, the textures still look crap obviously but it is probably better to play that than the PS1 version as you can up the resolution, as long as you have a decent controller to use with the PC.

...that port was a complete shambles, the original is classic despite its "rather dated"ness.

There's not much wrong with TTT at all. The cutscene style might be an acquired taste, and some of the dialogue changes are a little irritating (Mai Ling's "trained killer" one especially), but overall it's a far better game than the dated original.

I dunno, quite apart from my reservations about the liberties taken with TTS as an adaptation, I still personally think that the original plays better on a basic level. As Arbiter said in the other topic, the GCN pad feels ill-suited to the game for one thing, but more harmfully the game imports the MGS2 gameplay engine pretty much wholesale, but makes only minimal attempts to adapt the level design to accommodate it; as such, large swathes of the game became far too easy and certain parts (Ocelot battle, I'm looking at you) got broken entirely, just like Super Mario Bros. would suffer if you blithely added the Super Cape into it. PSX MGS1 does seem like a simple game now, and is certainly dated as a result, but at least it feels as though it works on the terms that it was made, something which, for me, TTS never did.

It would be nice if a PSX memory card came with it.

I'd probably buy this for 30 euros even though I already own MGS on the PSX and the PC, Twin Snakes on the Cube, Sons of Liberty and Subsistence on the PS2 xD

3 versions of MGS1, what the fuck is wrong with me?

The wonderful thing about TTS was that I knew the layouts of the maps 100% already, yet with the MGS2 AI and mechanics in place, it meant that I had to approach the game and screens in a totally different manner.

I keep meaning to have a go at the original using PSP emu, but then I remind myself that there isn't an option to use analogue control yet in the emulator. Which seems a touch bizarre.
