MGS collection unconfirmed for Europe

Konami yet to reveal plans.

Konami has said Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is yet to be confirmed for Europe.

The publisher told vigilant blog videogaming247 that until it officially outs the PS2 collection for our lands there's nothing to say.

Inside the collection is MGS, MGS2 (director's cut) and MGS3. It all comes wrapped up in fancy artwork, costs USD 29.99 or thereabouts, and should be out in the States before Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

That, if you remember, is pipped for a second quarter release this year. It's a date assistant producer Ryan Payton is committing to, claiming you can already play the game from start to finish.

And play it we did towards the end of January. We were left in "no doubt it will be a dream come true to MGS fans". Looks to be the best of the bunch from our perspective, too.

Pop over to our first impressions of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots to find out why. Hint: flashback button.

I already have all of them but it's strangely compelling having them all in one version.

$29.99 is a bargain, especially if there are any extras. Pity it seems to be just Snake Eater and not all the content from the ultra rare deluxe Subsistence package which has all but disappeared.

If only they patched together a new enhanced version of the first game. Whilst Twin Snakes is okay its a little rough around the edges and not quite up to standard, not forgetting the appalling new cut-scenes.

I will buy that assuming they make it BC. One would assume that if it's there as a round-up of what went before so people can get the back story before MGS4 comes out then they'd make it work. But then this is Sony...

MGS2 Director's Cut? I'd like a bit more info on that, as well as whether MGS1 is enhanced at all, before I start getting interested in this compilation...

$30 is a bargain for those games even though I thought the second one wasn't all that great. Seeing as it's for the PS2, is the first MGS going to be the original PSone version or a remake along the lines of the GameCube version?

/instabuy for my US launch PS3 at that price :p

I do seem to be the bringer of doom on these news posts but I'm convinced MGS4 will not see the light of day in PAL territories until 2009. It will appear in the US before the end of the year but not for us I fear. Just get that feeling in my bones. I just hope they are wrong.

    @Kropotkin
I would hope not, they stand to lose too many sales to importers given PS3 softwares region free status.

Just occured to me mind you that the translation job will be monumental for this title in Europe if previous games are anything to go by.

What does it matter, all PS3 games are region-free anyway so you could just import it if you want (and it'll be cheaper). That's what I did for Lair (ahem...) and Unreal Tournament III. ;)

Why would they not give you the newer version of MGS3?

So the MGS3 isn't the one with the new "3D" camera? Damn, I'd be interested in this if it was...
