MGO beta client updated

Get it ahead of weekend traffic.

Konami has popped out a small update for the Metal Gear Online beta client ahead of its Western launch this weekend.

We've no idea what it will do, but suggest grabbing it ahead of the weekend traffic.

The beta had previously been scheduled to start earlier this week, but was pushed back to early tomorrow morning - around 7am GMT - because Konami had problems handling the amount of people trying to take part.

That's the plan, anyway; it could be delayed further.

Metal Gear Online is a stand-alone online offering in the popular stealth-action series. It's due out around the world alongside Metal Gear Solid 4 on 12th June.

    Will it actually work this time? My last attempt to play the beta was one of the most pathetic gaming experiences I've ever had.

    yeah, came down rapid for me
    as with the last one, make sure you have it set to upload in the settings (its not default) otherwise it will stop you downloading

    Downloaded the new patch this morning using the torrent method... only took 4 minutes and from 14-15 clients. Not bad this time ;)

    Hopefully the game will be worth the hassle.

    Took me 20 minutes from 9 clients :) Bitorrent ftw (the HTTP download link always fails)

    It's noted that you need the 1.1 patch to update to 1.2.

    We've no idea what it will do, but suggest grabbing it ahead of the weekend traffic.

    The release notes distributed with the patch state that this "fixes the way the game connects to the servers".

    That sounds extremely positive.

    If only I had my PSP on me to remote it!!

    Maybe we could arrange a time tonight when people with and people needing that patch all log on, as it torrented that should be the quiest way for everyone to end up with the patch.

    Actually could get a konami and game id this time too from within the beta. It's all looking a wee bit smoother this time around. I hate that beta sign up form though, my good, it's like an IQ test, only difficult. I had to leave off the last two letters of my area code (Dutch) before it was accepted. I guessed that right first time though. I had more trouble with the requirements for the IDs themselves (can't be the same, need to be 8 characters, have stupid passwords - the game id one must be all numbers - etc.)

    Let's hope that's just for the beta! Though seeing as how they seem to have all sorts of commercial stuff (pionts, credit cards, etc.) in there, it may well not.

    My favourite part of the gameid application was when it suggested the password reminder question of the old favourite 'your mothers maiden name?', and then it told me my mothers maiden name wasn't long enough!!

    Aspic. No-one in EUROPE has logged on yet. It most certainly has been logged on by our Japanese gamer-crazy cousins!

    I just tried it too. All I can say is don't expect too much - although this being metal gear, who isn't?! This is definitely going to struggle against CoD4...

    Damn, right now I think its a big letdown. Hopefully it'll grow on me.
