Metroid Prime trilogy coming to Wii

Confirmed for US, but no Euro plans yet.

Nintendo is to release all the Metroid Prime games on one disc for the Wii.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy will launch on 24th August in the US. It will feature updated versions of GameCube titles Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, complete with Wii motion controls. The compilation will also include Wii game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, first released in 2007.

The trilogy disc is being developed by Retro Studios, the team behind all three original games. In addition to new Wii motion controls in the series' first two entries, Metroid Prime Trilogy also promises a "unified main menu," a new achievement-style system, in-game rewards, and widescreen support.

A Wii version of the original Metroid Prime was released exclusively in Japan earlier this year under the "Wii de Asobu" label - known as "New Play Control!" over here. Nintendo declined to comment on whether the Metroid Prime Trilogy will be released in Europe, with a spokesperson simply stating, "We've not announced any plans at this stage."

Be a bit strange if they didn't. We'll just see it X months later.

I can't remember, is the Wii region locked?

This has got to be released in Europe. I'll trade in my copy of Corruption for this.
Metroid Prime 1 is a masterpiece.

    @Grunk, yes it is.

That said; I'm looking forward to this, as a US Wii owner.

Metroid Prime 1 is indeed a masterpiece and the transition to Wii is excellent. I have fooled around with a patched Japanese version (the patch unlocks the translation to English) and can't wait for this to come out. If it doesn't come out in Europe that is just... insane. Luckilly, my Wii is modded, but still, what would be the reason NOT to publish it here?

"Metroid Prime 1 is indeed a masterpiece and the transition to Wii is excellent"

Loved part 1 up till the part I believe to be very close to the end where you have to travel upwards for quite a distance, jumping from platform to platform while being attacked by constantly respawning metroids which wouldn't be much of a problem if accidentally jumping against one that was apparently approaching you from the back wouldn't make you drop down all the way. Not fun.

But the overall presentation of the game was amazing, especially the sound was truly stunning. And the way you learned about the planet by investigation rather than story cut scenes really contributed to the atmosphere.

Albeit a re-release, this is easily as good as the Orange Box.

Why do I just know the earliest NOE would give us this game is Oct/Nov? They'll have less games for the Q4 than NOA have so they'll save this game for that time period pobably.

Yeah, the absolute earliest if they haven't said anything yet, that said only a 2-3 month delay is a bit optimistic giving NoE's track record. Hopefully it won't turn into another Paper Mario. :)

Mind you, the translation work etc. will have already been done years ago so maybe NoJ just haven't bothered telling them when they'll be getting it yet. NoE are always an afterthought.

This is an awesome compilation, I will be trading in my copy of Corruption for this too (normally I'd never trade a game but I don't really need to have two copies of Metroid 3).

Sounds like a really good deal to me (unusual for a Nintendo re-release). Probably not going to pick it up though as I already have all three Metroid Prime games.

Still it'd be even better if they were to make a new Metroid, especially a DS version with 3D graphics but 2D gameplay.

Judging by Punch Out's performance, and the fact most Metroid fans already own these games, I can't see this selling particularly well.

Great idea in theory though, the games are fantastic and a bundle of all three would be a bargain.

All three Prime games on one disc, all with the awesome Prime 3 control setup? Sold!

Also, I read somewhere that they've also improved the lighting in 1 & 2 by adding the same Bloom lighting as used in Prime 3. If that's true, it should definitely add a bit more atmosphere to the games. God I hope NoE release it over here.

There is literally no excuse for no Euro release. Literally nothing. Make up one, and I'll just say that's balls, excuse maker!

Well.. Rommors are that Excitebots is canceled here in Europe as well...
If we are not getting Metroid Prime trilogy and Excitebots i just have to chip my wii...

Thanks for nothing Nintendo, and do not expect me to import those games.. as I need to save the money for the chip. If the Wii wasn't region locked i would have imported them from the U.S.
Well, as i am an old loyal Nintendo gammer since the days of the NES, I will give you time till August to announce these games here. I hope you still care for your loyal European fans, Nintendo... I really do..

I loved the 2 Metroids releases on the Cube. I really really wanted to like the Wii release. But it was just the same all over again. And the Wii controls actually really sucked on certain boss fights. The Wii release was the only one i didnt finish. I will be skipping this release.

Aw man I defeated the final boss on ultra difficult mode and I'm gonna have to do it again. I am SO gonna get this.

My life will disappear after I get this.
