Metal Gear Solid on PSN this week News

PlayStation 3 PSP News by Robert Purchese

16 November, 2009

Konami has announced the arrival of Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation Store this Thursday, 19th November.

It was this PSone game that took the series 3D and established Hideo Kojima's creations as some of the best in the world. Metal Gear Solid will cost £7.99.

Following Metal Gear Solid will be MGS: Portable Ops, MGS: Portable: Ops+ and MGS: Digital Graphic Novel.

The idea is for Konami to build some serious Metal Gear Solid momentum ahead of MGS: Peace Walker's release sometime next year.

That PSP game, remember, is being overseen by Hideo Kojima himself, and has, among other things, four-player co-op.

There's much more information on the gamepage below.

Played through it for the hundreth time earlier in the year - playing this on the PSP on the train sounds fucking ideal, count me in!

Also +1 VicViper, played through most of FFVII again recently but FFVIII is the one I desperately want :)

I've seen it on the JP PSN, tauting me with its presence. Haven't seen a mention in any press about it though strangely, guess it doesn't have the weigth of FFVII in interest wise.

Still have my original copy together with the extra missions one (forgot the name)... But good for people that missed out, though the gamecube one is in some ways better.

Any word on whether it includes Trophies in this incarnation?

@VicViper

Just getting the original PAL disc to work on the PS3 would be a good start.

It's a PS1 game, not an updated HD version for the PS3 (like the new GOW Collection or Call Of Duty Classic) so no Trophies.

I'd love to finally experience the Portable Ops games, but I think it may be worth waiting until I buy finally a PSP (how much longer am I going to say that I wonder?) and play them as they were originally intended. Still, really good that they're being converted.

Would have used this as an excuse to get the PSP out again, but that price is a bit too steep.

I can see RE being priced that highly, when it finally comes out. It is not just PS1 titles whose prices continue to go up either - games like Fat Princess are priced ridiculously high, and it has been ages since a bargain title like PJ Monsters came along......

I can honestly say if you wish to play the first again get the twin snakes for the gamecube.

As others say the rose tints don't work for me any more either.

Edit:
-2 for offering a very good alternate way of playing?

I forgot to mention bleamcast aswell, another great way of playing MGS1

It's the Special Missions I want to see, it's been a while since I have been able to play that. I can't see how PS1 games can be worth £8, but it's a lot cheaper than some second hand copies I have seen. I know I seen FFVII or VIII for £15 in a store.

Considering the game was £40 ish when it came out, and is still an awesome game by today's standards, i'm more than willing to pay this price.

So that means that the playstation blog comments section will be greatly reduced due to people not having to ask for MGS anymore:D

By the way who ever complains about paying £7.99 for an absolute classic in video game history has chosen the wrong hobby - that's just about 2 pints down the pub, come on.
