wow only 8, i know its not low but it was meant to be a perfect game yes? ... PS3 realy isn't worth buying now. I'll stick with my trusty PC and XBox360

Last PS3 great white hope blown out. What's left now to PS3 fanboys? FFXIII?

The minute MS announces some kind of Blu-Ray playback facility for the 360, I'm selling my -largely unused- PS3.

Not unexpected though. I mean, as the entire genre is flawed so is every game produced in it. 8 is probably as high as it gets for a game of this type.

I really shouldn't speak though as I hate MGS myself. Not exactly unbiased..

Seems like there's a problem with even-numbered MGS games and cutscenes, 1 & 3 both seemed to have the right gameplay-cutscene balance imo. MGS2 was mental, every time one of my flatmates came into the room I was watching a cutscene, eventually he didn't believe there was any game there at all.

I think 8 is going to bring a better conflict of fanboy remakrs than a 7 would, a 7 is hard to justify as still an "amazing title"

What? 3 pages? I wanted this at least 402 long!

Stuck down a pre-order with Play yesterday, hoping that they actually deliver on the day.

I've been tempted to get a PS3 for a while since my 360 is on the way out but there's still not a killer game for it. I think i'll wait for FF13 and the new model version.

Errrr???? Not by anyone I know. Myself and my friends consider 1 and 3 brilliant and 2 an abomination. I don't even really consider it part of the series.

8 is good enough for me.

I would have liked to hear more on the control system! The unwieldly controls have always annoyed me about this series. I want to know if anything had done to address their horribleness.

Still, looks like a lot of money has gone in to this, and it will no doubt shift a few more PS3s until the next Final Fantasy game trundles in... Just feels as if gaming has moved on past MGS and it's done nothing to catch up.

Anyway, I'm a third of the way through MGS3 on my PS3, and enjoying it. So I'll definitely pick this up at some point, I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun and thrilling.

No I think thats a fair mark. People who detest the game structure would want the game marked lowly, people who love the game structure want it marked highly... its the middle "everyman" score.

i.e. there have been enough people who have voiced general meh at the cutscene heavy aspect of the game, and then there's people like me who sat through all of them with intense glee. One persons 10 is another mans 5.

8 is fair enough. Metal Gear has never been a perfect game, just a great one. I'm still looking forward to getting my hands on it

8/10?! That is the biggest joke ever! Everything points to a 9/10 AT THE VERY LEAST and they you come with an 8/10! Do the right thing and just change the score.

It's not even an everyman score, though, is it? There's no such thing with Metal Gear games. It's just a score tagged onto the end of the review because there has to be one.

Is everyone reading the same review? I've got a 360 and a wii, yet the review still tempts me to fork out for a PS3 and this. The review can be summed up in two words: flawed genius. 8/10 is a bloody good score, and I'll be telling my PS3 owning mates to get this bought pronto

Upon reading the full review, I'm really looking forward to this. It's a shame the conclusion paints a bleaker picture than the rest of the review, and will surely fuel the MGS haters, but it sounds like an epic treat for fans. EG may have handed the lowest review score yet, but 8/10 is a pretty good low :)

I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, having played every single Metal Gear and MGS game since they began. And I find this review....

Excellent. There's no bias, lots of clarity and I think 8/10 is the perfect score for this game...not that I've played it but y'know. It basically means it's a 10/10 for Metal Gear fans, but 8/10 for everyone else...worth picking up but it won't blow your world away because it caters to fans. Fanboys will start a Holy Crusade about this, but I really don't care. Roll on June 12th ^^

Whoever summed it up as "flawed genius" sounds like they're right on the money. It sounds like the kind of game that can't justify more than 8/10, but which will still - perversely - be one of my favourite games of the year, if not ever.

A bit like the rest of the Metal Gear series, actually. I can see the flaws that make some people want to hate the entire franchise - but none of them stop it from being - to my mind - some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. This sounds like more of the same, so roll on June 12th :)
