Apparently I am the only one who hates those graphics. They look so cheap and kitschy.

Are there any additions to this title or is it just a straight (albeit with Wiimote functionality) port?

They should chuck in all the previous Mercury puzzles from the first title too - like what Sega did with the ports of Monkeyball to Xbox and PS2.

Carlo - no, the next AAA on the Wii will be Tiger Woods (I hope)

Certainly not AAA, but I'm looking forward to this. The first was good but I wasn't going to bother with the sequel. The Wiimote has given be that little added incentive. Good stuff.

Looks good, Glad to see some decent third party titles. Kororinpa (sp?) looks good too and is coming out around the same time.

If the graphics and overall presentation were up to par with the main idea and level design, I think this could easily become an AAA title. In it's current form it's too cheapish to impress the big players. Well, maybe in the third iteration the graphics will catch up.

(ps. I am loving both of the games on my PSP)

didn't one of the older games have the option of swapping the graphic style? I also think it looks a bit yicky at the moment..

I like the original mercury graphics better as well, but this looks pretty good too. It's mainly the gameplay that excites me though.

It's a little disappointing that they ported the PSP graphical style, but if they make it a good game I won't complain.

IIRC they said in an interview that time constraints led them to do do mostly the same game (there are Wii specific levels) on the Wii, but they wanted to follow up with a part 2 for Wii, where they could include whatever they wanted.

As a side note, they always wanted this to have tilt control, and had even thought about an add-on for the PSP, but it wasn't feasible. So, in a sense this is the first version of Mercury that is "as the designer intended".

That opening was a bigger review of MonkeyBall for the Wii's main singleplayer mode then the actual review had to offer!

Best article introduction ever Mugwum!

Oh and agreed, the original Mercury's graphical style was much nicer.

Hmmm.. super paper mario MIGHT be out before this.. Which (unless it gets skanked up) is a must buy. (Cue lots of fanboys telling me its a gamecube conversion.. Well kameo started out on the cube too.. so shuttit! *smile*).

Metroid is due around april/may too...

This doesnt really look like my kinda thing.. these things always fustrate me when i get them in christmas crackers.

Seems like the type of game the wiimote is most suited to. With games like this it's all about the control...

MM is glued to my PSP at the moment - this is a terribly under-rated game, imho. I was a fan of the first one, but this improves on it in every respect - yes, even in the graphics department.

The presentation is absolutely superb, in my view - the graphics and the music remind me strongly of Sega in their Dreamcast heyday (many of the music tracks wouldn't be out of place in a game such as JSR). I wasn't too keen on the new look either before I eventually bought the game, but in the flesh it all comes together as a fantastically slick package... they've kept what made the original great, and improved on it in every possible way.

If they pull it off, it should be a fantastic Wii title, and well worth checking out. Dare I say it, it probably make a pretty good PlayStation Network title too with Sixaxis support...

As much as I hate the term "AAA", why are people quick to dismiss this as a so-called "AAA" title.

The DS has shown that the goalposts can be moved in terms of what a major title is. Brain Training would never have been classed as "AAA" prior to release, but by any definition it absolutely is.

The Wii - in my opinion - is also going to have a completely different breed of "AAA" titles to the norm, and I see no reason as to why Mercury can't be one of them.
