Mega Man 9 gets a release date News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

24 September, 2008

Capcom has revealed the WiiWare, PSN and Xbox Live release dates for Mega Man 9.

First up is the WiiWare version, which arrived in the US on Monday for 1000 Wii Points (GBP 7.00 / EUR 10.00). It's likely to be part of our weekly WiiWare update on Friday.

The PSN offering is next in line and due to appear on the US PS3 Store for USD 9.99 tomorrow. Our version may take an extra week or two to appear, but keen fans can always buy from the American shop.

Last will be the Xbox Live version on Wednesday 1st October. This will cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60), and should be obtainable simultaneously by European users.

Mega Man 9 continues the classic 2D platforming series that last expanded on PlayStation and SEGA Saturn in 1996.

NES-inspired graphics return, along with all the hand-attached-weaponry, bosses and challenging levels that made Mega Man so popular. It was either that or his tight-fitting space clobber.

Head over to Eurogamer TV to see Mega Man 9 in action.

Played it on the Wii yesterday, I LOVE IT.

It's hilariously difficult (an hour or so of playing and couldn't reach even one robot master - stupid geodude on Jewel Man's stage,) and the music is amazing.

Loads of people are moaning about the DLC, but the way I see it - the game you do get for the base price is still worth it, if you don't think the DLC is worth it, then don't buy it - not a hard concept.

(DLC includes harder difficulty levels and the ability to play as Protoman who can use his shield to deflect attacks, charge up shots and slide.)

ALSO, as someone who played the original Megaman games for the NES as a child when they came out - it's such a surreal feeling playing an actual brand new NES Megaman in 2008 with 2008 trimmings like achievements and DLC. It's the nicest nostalgic feeling ever - familliar like I should've played this a million times, yet totally new.

I would now like Super Mario Bros 4 and a Rainbow Islands 2.

Is it available as WiiWare yet?

I've been debating on whether to get it on XBL or Wii... I know that the Classic controller is better on the Wii but view the game through standard composite rather than through HDMI is rubbish.

@slackmaster ...It's a NES game. There is no normal mapping or anti-aliasing here. HD over composite here is so incredibly irrelevant.

That's the other thing that's annoyed me - people moaning about the lack of progressive scan support in this game. Are you kidding? IT'S A NES GAME.

Did I mention it's a NES game?

Yeah I know it is based on the NES engine. I still have my NES which I plug into my 32" HD TV and that looks a lot better than my Wii does. For some reason the image is slightly blurred but nice and crispish on the original Nes connected via Composite.

I don't care about progressive scan bollocks, I just don't want the image to resemble looking through a misted window.

P.s After running through Megaman 2 and 3 again I can't wait for this game.

Good thing it doesn't come to PSN this week already as I think we're already getting WipeOut and Burnout among others, that's more than good enough for any week. ;)

I had that blurry problem with my Wii through composite on a HD screen - try change from 60 hZ to 50hZ

Could be, but when playing on a HD the picture actually becomes worse than on a normal telly. I like to go back to the roots but even worse. nah. I hooked up my PS2 once to it, it looks totally shit compared to my normal TV. It just blows up every freaking pixel detail

Well I'd rather wait two weeks for Mega Man 9 on PSN than Wipeout HD myself although I'll certainly check it out when it does arrive.

"I would now like Super Mario Bros 4 and a Rainbow Islands 2. "

You mean Super Mario World and Parasol Stars?

I have just got to the end of Mega Man 2, which I adore, so I too am looking forward to this!

I cant help but think this'll play shit on the 360 pad.

.. analog sticks are obviously shit for a game like this. But the 360 dpad is AWFUL (from what i remember playing the "hacking" sections of bioshock) - so I'll avoid it!

I would play it on the wii.. but i cant be arsed plugging it back in to tv for one game
