May made LEGO: RB hair demands News

PlayStation 2 DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Robert Purchese

5 November, 2009

Queen guitarist Brian May required his famous perm be replicated perfectly before he signed away his likeness for LEGO Rock Band.

"I think my LEGO character is wonderful. I want one," May, 62, told Yahoo.

"We had discussions about the hair," he added, "there were a few emails. They had to negotiate to use my likeness, but it's a nice thing."

As a result, game developer Traveller's Tales (working with Warner Bros., the LEGO group, Harmonix and MTV Games) has produced an enviable Brian May likeness. Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott is not happy.

"Joe Elliott rang me up and said he was p***ed off because they didn't make one of him," said May, who's wrinkly and clever, like an elephant.

LEGO Rock Band will be released on 27th November for DS, PS2, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360.

You know you've arrived as an artist when you have a digital Lego character.

Totally! good on him I say. If you are going to be in a game then they should at least do you the service of making it as good as it can be.

Pssst. Robert. BroTip between you and me.

Telltale makes Adventure games like Tales of Monkey Island, CSI and Wallace and Gromit. Travellers Tales makes the Lego games.

What a cock.............

I'm sorry, but if you have the absolutely luxuriant perm Brian May has, you will go to any length to protect your image. Even if its on a Lego mini-figure.

Wonder how long it will be before we get a news article saying he's suing Travellers Tales as they're using his perm in other songs without his permission...

@ Dodgymat

Thanks to the Cobain incident, all the bands in Lego RB are locked to their own songs. However, if you have their DLC and its compatible with Lego RB (Songs now have a content filter on them that you can look up on the main Rock Band Webpage). You can play it with the band in question e.g if you bought the Queen 10 pack two weeks ago. A couple of the songs will be available to play with Queen in Lego RB. Same with Blur, Iggy Pop, Bowie and Spinal Tap and if more songs become available, they will have Lego RB features too.

I wonder how much Travellers Tales had 'toupee' in order to get May in the game.

Is all Rockband DLC compatible with this game then?

I might be tempted if I can have a band of pirates.

@Monkey Puncher; I think it's only 'family friendly' rock band DLC that'll work with this. But for the sheer basis of profit margins, I'd assume that that's the vast majority of the existing tracks.
