Mass Effect 2 teased in trailer

Shephard killed in action?

BioWare has released the first footage of Mass Effect 2.

The teaser clip shows no gameplay footage, but instead lists known details of protagonist Shephard before proclaiming him/her "killed in action". The clip closes with what appears to be a Geth destroyer zapping the camera with its laser eye.

So far that's more or less all we know about the sequel, although we've heard BioWare is planning "much darker" experience based around the differences of organic to synthetic life.

EA has said Mass Effect 2 will be released by April 2010, and on multiple platforms. Neither developer nor publisher has explained whether that includes PS3.

Head over to Eurogamer TV for that very first Mass Effect 2 teaser.

SHOW ME THE GAME! Man I hate this hype "tease" crap it doesn't get me interested it just annoys me!

Anyway can't wait, not a big RPG fan but enjoyed ME right to the end (which is odd for me as I never finish RPGS). An amazing game, an amazing exerience.

Just PLEASE vary up what you do on the planet surfaces and add some DIFFERENT interiors this time Bioware, those two things really hurt the experience first time round.

Showing a Geth in Shephard's armour may throw some light onto these comments...

Preston Watamaniuk added: "We are going to continue on other themes such as technology: what does it mean to be alive? How does synthetic life or intelligence compare to real-, true-life or organic life? How do you cross those boundaries, can we cross those boundaries, should we cross those boundaries? We really want to push into that direction."

If Shephard is dead, could we be putting Shephard's mind into a synthetic body?

    You spelled his name wrong!

Why do I get the sinking feeling that the thing they told us to hold onto our ME1 saves for will be so that our old character can appear on the token KIA report?

Arrrghhhh how irritating... it would have been cool if you had the option to carry your character over from your saved Mass Effect game.

    Ahhh well :-(

It's like in Shenmue2 when I spent half an hour converting my shenmue1 save file into a shenmue2 save file so that i could transfer across all of my capsule machine trinkets to the new game, only to get mugged within 10 minuets by some poxy little street urchin, who then sells them all for pennies :'(

KIA = undercover team? SPECTRE's sound like they should all officially be classed as KIA anyway...
  • hiddenranbir #12 3 years ago

A death! So much darker than the first! Darkoware!
  • metalangel #13 3 years ago

coolbritannia: oh, I hope you are right. hoster: yup, or Quest for Glory 2 where all your stuff was more or less redundant in the new desert setting. Thing is, if I could bring my level capped character over, she would smash her way through everything (much like she did when I started her second playthrough, come to think of it)

"If Shephard is dead, could we be putting Shephard's mind into a synthetic body"

Sounds the most likely angle to me from what I've seen so far. Would he/she be playable character though? Could they even end up as your nemesis?
  • coolbritannia #15 3 years ago

How cool would that be? All your levelling up and specialist skills from 1 come back as your nemesis in 2, forcing you to effectively defeat yourself!

I wonder how they are going to deal with the power of my character in ME2, with biotics i could levitate a whole armies!

I also hope they have a way of choosing what choices your character made in the first one, i don't have my saves anymore.
  • dustrat #17 3 years ago

    @Inigo
You're screwed. If you don't save your saves you must create a new character.

And I can't believe Shepard is killed in action. He is obviously very hard to kill, and I believe it's a coverup so he can work under cover for a while. Just my thoughts.

Multiple platforms but not announced for PS3?

So the Wii will be getting it then...

When you say 'by not making KoTOR II' is that a really roundabout joke about 'ohoho, that unfinished travesty we suckered you all into buying doesn't really count as KoTOR II!' or are you serious?
  • RedSparrows #20 3 years ago

I think it's perhaps a little too early to draw definite conclusions.

    Except for that one.
  • coolbritannia #21 3 years ago

Bioware didn't make the KOTOR sequel did they?

"Arrrghhhh how irritating... it would have been cool if you had the option to carry your character over from your saved Mass Effect game."

No, that would be rubbish. Why would I want to start a new game already levelled up to lv. 60? thus making everything really easy and boring. It would totally kill any replay value too.

Wow....talk about late to the party.
I can't believe I just found out now that my fav game of this generation has a sequel teaser...and I just found out now.

Anyways, I'm willing to wager that this isn't shepard. Yes its got the uniform, but remember, you could equip any one of your team with the armour.

There were rumours that whoever of your teamate that died on that planet would return. I'm willing to bet that this geth is the geth/human incarnation of whoever died in the blast. If it was the guy (forgotten his name), then seeing that he had biotic powers, he may be able to exist as a geth.

I just can't imagine bioware killing of your own individual shepard for a generic geth.
