Mass Effect 2 DLC released

New sniper rifle and armour.

BioWare has released a new downloadable content pack for role-playing shooter Mass Effect 2.

The Aegis Pack includes the M-29 Incisor sniper rifle, described as a burst-fire weapon that excels in destroying enemy shields, and the Kestrel armour set, which comes in five pieces.

Once downloaded, the pack will land in Shepard's armour locker, and will cost you 160 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and 160 BioWare Points on PC.

The Aegis Pack follows the release of the story-driven Overlord DLC, which Dan Whitehead reviewed for Eurogamer last month.

What on earth is the point of new stuff like armour or weapons in a single player RPG at this stage?
  • andywilkie35 #2 2 years ago

Ah superb, more weapons and armour for a game I completed 5 months ago. Can we have some more over priced one hour expansion packs too please? They add fuck all to the game that I've finished and I want to spend my money on them.
  • menage #3 2 years ago

Pass, really don't need this stuff, doesn't add much to what's already there.

I really like the story and character DLC, but a new gun really isn't doing it for me.Especially since the guns/armor really don't matter that much gameplay wise.

I do find the "old game is old" comments unfair. Multiple playthroughs aren't unheard of with this game and I still put it in the 360 once in a while. Nobody has to buy anything so what the hell is the problem. Just walk away then.

The sniper rifle is really good, but i was lucky enough to get it for free when all that stuff was leaked on the marketplace before the game came out. No way would i pay 160msp for this. 80 might be in the realm of impulse buy but more than 100 makes me stop and think.
  • Terribly_Mauled #5 2 years ago

Same as @Ghettomurph, I snagged it all when all the Preorder DLC accidently went up before launch. Incisor was the only snipe I used in the game through both plays, utterly superb weapon, but rather a cheek to be charging for it now. Its not new content by any means

For the first few commenters, beleive or not, some peole replay the game quite a bit.

I'm going in for another replay after crackdown 2, which would be my 8th replay.

I never understand the false forum rage over DLC. If you don't want the fucking stuff, don't fucking buy it. You don't need to come on to a forum and discuss it ad nauseam. Christ, you'd think from some comments that bioware were coming round to your house, lifting the cash out of your pockets and walking out the door.

Its 160 MS points i'll gladly pay, as i put my pure paragon vanguard through its paces.

Would have made more sense to release this at the same time as the Overlord DLC, as I am not going to go back to ME2 unless its for new missions.
  • Dylbot #8 2 years ago

I'd love to join the "HURF DURF MORE STORY" brigade but, considering that this is the middle game of a trilogy, I'd rather they put the big work into the next one. I won't be buying this, but it doesn't hurt either. Some people want to drop a few spare points on some shiny new armour, let them. Not having it doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. You know, unlike certain other games, that put up extra multiplayer content for a hilarious premium, and then put that content into heavy rotation so that users without it are peer-pressured into buying it.
  • sanctusmortis #9 2 years ago

The Incisor was supposed to be Cerberus Network originally. Oh dear...

And people, you are allowed to replay it. There's no law against restarting the game, picking a new class and then playing new content. Done it twice now.

nah. Traded the game in after i completed it on insanity, and that was about 4 or 5 months ago.

anomagnus: I really don't understand how you can go through a story driven game 8 times. Sure you have your renegade and paragon actions and consequences, but that equates to two play throughs (which is what i did) at the most.

I may not understand ya, but i god damn respect you.

Agree with majority of the comments, I completed this game a while ago now. In all the DLC so far all the characters act as if the collectors are still a threat when in actual fact I already defeated them 5 months ago!

Are we ever going to get a proper expansion in the mould of Shivering Isles?

    PLEASE BIOWARE!
  • TeaFiend #13 2 years ago

When I saw "Kestrel Armor" I kept thinking of Craaaaaaaaig Daaaaaaaavid.
  • swissorc #14 2 years ago

Only Free DLC is true DLC anything else is a con. Shivering Isle's style additions exempt of coarse.
  • TeaFiend #15 2 years ago

DLC on disc which a download unlocks, poop.
DLC that was made post release, good.

    See Borderlands vs Bioshock 2.
  • sonicyoda #16 2 years ago

This should have been free really.
  • Snidesworth #17 2 years ago

Wasn't the purpose of the Cerberus Network to give people with legit/first hand copies a stream of little goodies like this? They'd be a nice addition for the next time I play the game, but butter spending money on them.

Bioware arent winning any fans by charging for such pointless stuff.
  • Moribundman #19 2 years ago

Oh bla bla free bla. I bought it. I'm with Anomagnus here. If you really can't be arsed to try a second (third... fourth...) playthrough then don't bother.

The Kestrel Armour amounts to the best in the game, and if you're doing a playthrough plus to buff your character for ME3 (particularly if you're doing it for the Insanity achievement) then this is a real bonus.

Paying for gamer pics/alternate costumes = rip off. Paying a small amount for something extra in your second playthrough = nice fan service.

If you're not a huge fan, ignore it. They wouldn't have crafted new items for free at this point, and a lot more effort has gone into this than the much more expensive DLC packs for Dead Space (which effectively just changed your armour colour and boosted your stats like an unbalanced cheat mode).
  • Moribundman #20 2 years ago

@Ghettomurph Technically it's new to 360... The only way you could get it before was the way you got it. It was exclusive to the PC digital deluxe edition, but presumably due to the way they manage stuff on the Bioware site they needed to make all content available on all platforms.

And I snagged the Widow rifle on the Collector ship, which is a better gun for an Infiltrator Shepard. Not usable by Garrus/Thane tho.
  • hiddenranbir #21 2 years ago

This sniper rifle will totally change the face of my game.Totally will give me a new experience, even though there is only the Red or Blue path.
  • jonfon #22 2 years ago

I hate the way the best weapons in Bioware games are simply "Pay and you have it" now. If you insist on doing this Bioware at least have the decency to make them the reward for some new attached mini-quest in the DLC

I like exploring and doing side-quests for nice items personally, not just paying and it magically appearing in my storage locker.

I don't mind DLC, but at least attach some modicum of a storyline to it. You're BIOWARE for heavens sakes!
  • darkphoenix #23 2 years ago

    EA's the boss now, son...
  • lucky_jim #24 2 years ago

Meh. Not interested in this. The story-based DLC has been pretty good though, I'm nearing the end of my second playthrough and it fits in great in that context. I know people who've clocked up four or five playthroughs, so I've got to agree with menage on that point.
  • rhinoxious #25 2 years ago

I haven't played ME2 yet, it's still in its shrink-wrap after a baby disrupted my gaming habit ...

Can anyone recommend which bits of DLC are worth buying before a first playthrough?
  • Ghettomurph #26 2 years ago

@Moribundman. I never said it wasnt new to 360, i just said it was a really good weapon (probably the best sniper rifle in the game) and i got it with all the leaked stuff like the american-only Dr Pepper kit and the preorder armours.

At 160msp its not an impulse buy, but then its not like Bioware are saying people need it to play the game.
  • Sunyavadin #27 2 years ago

Charging for stuff like this is always a big no-no.

I expect more free stuff to justify the price they charge the second-hand buyers. I may have bought it new, but seriously, their ground gets shakier by the minute.

I'll happily pay for the larger story-driven expansions. Just don't expect me to buy these ones.
  • kinky_mong #28 2 years ago

I'm glad my Cerberus Network code was a great reason to buy the game new because of all the free additions I'm getting months down the line... What's that? All I got was a couple of 5 minutes mission and pointless weapons? And I have to pay silly amounts of points for slightly longer extra missions and weapons? What a great reason for buying early!
  • telboy007 #29 2 years ago

Currently replaying it now, after completing it soon after launch have gone back to play it through again on Insanity. I will then complete Mass Effect for the 4th time and play through ME2 again with a completed save game file. Lovin' it. Maybe OCD, maybe obsessed. It's my habit so go figure.

"Only Free DLC is true DLC anything else is a con. Shivering Isle's style additions exempt of coarse."

R Trigger: STFU, what kind of BS statement is that?

"Can anyone recommend which bits of DLC are worth buying before a first playthrough?"

L Trigger: The new character one, she is quite quite awesome. Overlord is ok. Download anything else that is free. :)

I brought this, even though after looking at it in Shep's quarters I might just use the legs. Too used to the Onyx armour. This pack appeals more to me than the 2 helmets and the 1st appearance pack.
  • Centrifugal #31 2 years ago

This is mostly for the hardcore fans. People who play through the game again, and again, and again to try and explore every possibility.

You don't need to buy it if you don't want to.

people who havent got the game yet might get it, at least the options there, it feels good to buy stuff
  • pinochet_cz #33 2 years ago

Is this really same company who made Dragon Age DLC stuff?
  • Bluetooth #34 2 years ago

Nowadays I wait a while for a game to come down in price, have all its addons released and then conveniently repackaged into a "complete" version for the consumer to eventually buy. I did this the other day with Assassin's Creed 2 for £18. Any chance of it happening with Mass Effect 2 (and Dragon Age)?
