Mass Effect 2 Collector's Ed detailed

DVD! Art! In-game treats! Tin!

EA has unveiled the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 2, which arrives in Europe on 29th January 2010.

The premium steel case edition will cost $70 on Xbox 360 (probably £55) and $60 on PC (probably £45).

Inside you'll find a 48-page hardcover art book, issue one of the Mass Effect Redemption comic, and a familiar bonus DVD with developers yapping on about how the game was made. You'll also be given exclusive in-game weapons and armour. Oh, and there's the game.

BioWare commonly refers to Mass Effect 2 as the dark second chapter in the trilogy. Shepard's back, and there has been considerable technical polish lavished on the space RPG as well as advent of a brand new story.

So far we're impressed, as our well-stocked gamepage below should show. Look out for a new, more advanced hands-on tomorrow morning.

I'd quite like one of these in the collectors box:

    Shepard in 8" glory

I haven't bought a collector's edition of anything in years....

    Pointless waste of money....

Waste of money, perhaps, but the Forza 3 CE box is a thing of beauty.
  • Kazzahdrane #5 2 years ago

Since I bought the CE of the first one and never opened the art book or watched the DVD, I'm going to do my best to resist this.

Good news - I like CEs of games. Tat-whore that I am. Was worried we'd lose out what with MS not publishing this time round (MS are really big on CEs, surprised there wasn't one for ODST - apart from the controller thing, natch).

Looks great; if I've got enough money, I'll get it.

    Correction:

"...developers yapping on about how great they are and how fantastic their game is...."

A statuette would have been nice, but art books and making of DVD's, I'll pass.

I like my Fallout 3 statuette of a Brotherhood of Steel soldier. I liked it even better because I got the FO3 LE for under £30.

    How about a cloth spacemap?

At least it's not fivehundredbazillionthousand dollars like seemingly every other Collector's Edition announced these days. Still, any amount is too much for worthless, pointless and/or useless fluff. So thanks but no thanks.

    @Kazzahdrane
That's exactly what my experience with it was like as well. Still haven't got a clue of what's on that bonus disc.

    Irony.
  • Eraysor #14 2 years ago

I'll probably get that, as I'm a massive ME fanboy.

Not a bad bundle as these things go. I value art books and game content far more than plastic figurines and pervert goggles.

Only CE i have is bioshock.
    Cheap piece of crap.

(Looks embarrassingly at his Legendary Edition, collecting ever more dust in the corner) :S
  • hiddenranbir #18 2 years ago

The first ME tin was pretty rubbish.

Nice to see this one might be better...maybe.
  • kongzi #19 2 years ago

Cool.. Mass Effect 1 took me by surprise. Really liked it, didn't think that would happen. Still I'll pass on the collector's edition. What, I wanna put commander Shepards all american dodo looking ass next to my beautiful antique buddha?? sure.

"I'd quite like one of these in the collectors box:

Pfft! They ought to do that thing they did with Spore and give you model of YOUR Shepard. Yeah I know it wasn't Shepard in Spore but you get the idea...

Sounds like a great package - not sure about the comic - anyone read any of these and are they particularly worth owning?

The ones for "Halo 3", "Resistance 2" and "Gears of War 2" were overall a nice addition, but I wouldn't consider them mandatory, unless you're a die-hard fan of the series that is.

    (...) Tin!

Sold. Looks as good as the one for the original.

Well I've now bought ME1 3 times - once for standard edition, once a second hand tin (but the sleeve was a bit scratched) then the platinum edition which looks shit but has everything the tin has on the discs and more (particularly nice Normandy premium theme).

I gave the tin to a mate as part of a birthday pressie so might just have to buy again to match the ME2 set! ;-)

Btw, the full ME1 art book (which is a very nice hardcover edition) is available WITH the game guide for about a fiver at GAME and Gamestation online. Well worth it if you ask me.

Has anyone actually bought the Saren avatar outfit? Was actually happy to buy some N7 armour, but the Saren armour just makes your avatar look like a gimp... ;-)

I second that. The game guide is actually not mandatory, but the art book is just gorgeous overall... So is the official soundtrack.

Bought the collectors' edition of the original on 360. Ditto this time around.

Please tell me this will be the box art in the UK. Has anyone seen the ABORTION of a design that the standard version is supposed to be getting in Europe on Kokatu?
